this is absolutely shocking to me, and could end up being this administration's greatest accomplishment. unfortunately it is only a tiny step as it applies just to federal prisons and not state prisons, local jails, or territorial prisons. i will believe it when i see it though, as the prison lobby is one of the most powerful political lobbies in america, behind only the drug, oil, and insurance lobbies, and just ahead of the gun manufacturers lobby. they have been paying politicians to enforce things like the 3 strikes laws, marijuana legislation, and the war on drugs for so long that i always believed they were too entrenched to ever be extricated from the political process. it will be interesting to see if we start to focus on a prison culture of rehabilitation instead of vengeance. like i said, i will believe it when i see it.
the scary thing is, what will be the prison lobby's next step to recuperate profits?
