Welp, time to scratch my stalled drone project and move to something either ground or water based. The registration fee, however small, just seems ridiculous and greedy. The FAA should have taken the drone panel's suggestion and not imposed any kind of fee. There's just no reason for it. If the cost is for someone to process it manually, I would ask why there's anything manual involved to begin with. In any case, here comes big brother to ruin everyone's fun because a couple asshats couldn't keep their drones out of first responders' way. Good job guys.

$5 fee will be waived for those who register by mid-January.

Ye doth protest too much, MPAA et al...
"Google will come after you" if you point out its "unlawful conduct," MPAA says.

So the lesson here? Micro-sleeping between key strokes, not a great idea. I was wondering how some code, that I never actually coded yet, was working.

Moving closer to getting some of the core parts of my kymera project completed. Here's my first go at VDOM diff'ing, with a contrived test. Next step is taking that diff and applying it to a DOM node tree.

As Techdirt said, Merry Christmas! Proof that karma is real and most people get what they deserve.

I know the MS of today isn't the same one from days gone by, or to paraphrase +Scott Hanselman, today's MS didn't kill my pappy. Still, I can't help but feel open sourcing their new Chakra engine doesn't come off as a bit disingenuous or "me too!"-ish.

https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2015/12/05/open-source-chakra-core/
Today at JSConf US Last Call in Florida, we announced that we will open-source the core components of Chakra as ChakraCore, which will include all the key components of the JavaScript engine poweri…

So I get the feeling G+ isn't going anywhere and there was some talk about changing direction to become more of a Reddit competitor rather than a Facebook one. With that in mind, I can resume my oversharing of interesting articles. W000T!

After over a decade of on&off effort put into this project, I'm officially retiring it. It was one of my first code projects and there are plenty of fond memories I will take with me, but it's time to put it to rest. Lately, I've become very interested in supporting and contributing to the public domain. This is why I'm slowly but surely unlicensing all of my projects and letting them be truly free without tying the hands of anyone who might use it. Unfortunately, Ganadia was built on a mountain of previous projects, all with their own licensing terms of which I would have to either ignore or seek exemptions from all the previous authors, spanning over 25 years, with nothing but a name or pseudonym to go on. Given the two options, I'm opt'ing for door #3: retire it as is and start a new project without any copyright restrictions at all, free and open. #publicdomain   #copyright   #opensource

Another test with kymera, this time applying the patch I previously generated. Works great after a late night code session.

Well to be fair, it did seem too good to be true. They were so close, really they were. But +Microsoft Corporation can't help but be the M$ still mocked on forums across the web. I guess it's in their nature. Most people I know that are, or were, looking to jump on 10, have 7 since they've avoided an upgrade to 8 because, well.. it's 8. The news that they were going to offer it for "free" to Windows 7 and 8 users seemed appropriate recompense for all the wrongness of 8, so it didn't strike me as odd. They could still do it I suppose, but I don't think anyone is going to be holding their breath. Sad too since +Windows isn't really what MS is selling anyways, it's just a tool to get you there. The real sells are all the "extras" like office and enterprise support that are delivered through Windows. Oh well.
