to the people with all those different portable swing designs on instructables: I know it was part of a class, but the swing IS portable as is.  Designs like this might be "cool" (some of them really are, in concept) but ultimately take a simple idea like a swing and try to make it more complicated.  The great thing about the swing is you can make it with a discarded 2x4, some rope, and a drill bit/drill to drill holes.  that's it.  that's all you need.  this 2x4 can easily be portable and you can backpack and hitchhike with it, walking miles around cities.  How do I know this?  I did the Purple Swing Project http://purpleswings.com .  I did that.  The best part was I didn't have to spend hours making swings and scavenging for little parts - other than maybe  the sanding and finding the right piece of wood.  a 1ft piece of 2x4 is pretty portable!  and with the knot I tie, you don't need carabiners.

mostly I am just frustrated by design classes that try to take a simple concept and make it that much more obtuse.  Creativity and art are great and all, but this kind of project is exactly why I do not want to get a degree in design.

"These days, you see a kid lying on his back and looking blank and you begin to wonder what’s wrong with him. There’s nothing wrong with him, except he’s thinking… He is trying to arrive at some conclusion about his thumb."
