I don't know how much of  a chance I have at getting one of the Best Journalists spots. Maybe I should shoot for something smaller - like Best Grown Up Easter Egg Hunt organizer.
That, I could win.
Standards, folks, it's all about standards.

The Mechanicville School District has received $45,000 from the US Department of Environmental Protection (EPA) to replace two older buses with two newer cleaner emitting buses. The new buses operate at close to zero emission.

"In these fiscally difficult times, any savings are welcome," said Superintendent Dr. Michael J. McCarthy. "More important, however, is the safety of our children.  This allows the district to provide our children with the newest and cleanest vehicles.  In addition, the district is also able to reduce its carbon footprint.   It's a win all around."

The funding is part of the EPA's Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA), which seeks to significantly reduce diesel emissions and promote a cleaner and healthier environment. The district was among more than 1,000 applicants nationwide that sough the funding. Of that 1,000, only 30 grants were awarded. Mechanicville was one of only two in New York State that was awarded a grant.

"The DERA grant program does what we encourage schools to do, and that is replace their decade old buses with new, cleaner running buses," said Mike Leonard, President of Leonard Bus Sales.  "We are very excited for Mechanicville who will use the EPA funds to replace the oldest bus in their fleet with reliable and environmentally-sound clean buses."

Happy belated Book of Mormon Day!  On April 6, 1830, Joseph Smith founded the Church of Christ religion, without which we couldn't bear witness to the awesome musical.

Albany County Legislative Chairman +Shawn Morse (D-Cohoes) is once again calling for Albany County to be fully self- insured regarding its health insurance.
Morse is also proposing a system in which other municipalities could join in with the county plan thereby saving the county and the municipality’s money. “We tried this a few years back but there were some roadblocks at the state level,” said Morse.
A bill in the New York State Assembly introduced by Assemblyman Phil Steck, could reduce those roadblocks said Morse.
“I applaud Assemblyman Steck and the other sponsors in the Assembly for introducing this legislation,” said Morse. “It’s exciting to see and I hope this will allow us to move forward at the county level.”

It was one year ago that something very special came into my life - changing me and nearly everything about me.

We've had good times together into the wee hours of the night and bad times as well. But we've stuck through it.

I truly love/hate you, iPhone.

I want to do my own survey on what you think of the current state of NY.

You don't need to fill out a long survey or talk to me on the phone. Just, when/if you get a chance, answer the below questions as succinctly as you can.
I'll list the results on Monday on here (and Facebook).

1) Are you happy with your current quality of life?
2) Salary wise, are you making more than/less than/equal to what you earning five years ago?
3) Benefits wise, are your benefits better than/worse than/equal to what they were five years ago?
4) Are you satisfied/unsatisfied/undecided about the job your local/regional/state elected officials are doing?
5) Are you satisfied/unsatisfied/undecided about the job the state governor is doing?
6) Extra: What do you think is the biggest issue in NYS today?

Introduction
I enjoy swimming, hiking, and writing - yes, in that order.

I also like Spider Man (see above Tagline).
Bragging rights
I will eventually climb all 46 High Peaks in NY's Adirondacks and swim the English Channel. Until then, I'm content with planning Grown Up Easter Egg Hunts and skydiving for charity.
