Too bad you closed the comments, but since I was already typing this, here:
Warren Buffet is preaching the same at every lecture he gives. Personally I feel that although taxation is the key, we are decades away from achieving this, mainly because of the decision makers' set of mind. The first step should be proper education of the young, where the equality, well being, and public domain are central to personal feeling of success, instead of monetary values. This should be done via public education systems, greater exposure to arts, more humane architecture and public spaces, by redefining the anglo-saxon axiom for personal success. The laws will follow, as for future law makers current situation will be unthinkable. We have wonderful examples of such precesses happening now in Scandinavia and other places around the world, which even now, funny enough, are rated as better stronger, more "livable" societies, than the ones following the American/English paradigm.
