Supplies replenished and escaped route secured, the travelers decide to earn some extra shins by working for the red fleet. Of course, working for pirates might bring with it some morally questionable activities.

The +Fandible crew does love their superhero games. And I love to dress in spandex. I'm wearing some right now. So, really, it all works out great.

Game was a blast!

Ran Bubblegumshoe for +Fandible last night, and I think I can safely say we had a blast. We used the Veronica Base, Mars drift (in part because I love that name. I may be easily amused), and the characters were 12-14. I used one of the example mysteries from the drift, who is stealing your friend's mom's research.

The podcast is likely to go up next month, so I don't want to go into too many details, but some highlights:

*Everyone played "nerdy teen/pre-teen" to the hilt. We played with the class aspects of the core game by setting up a divide between the hard/soft sciences as well as intellectual/physical sciences. The characters were the son of a weird entomologist (hard science, but the guy is new and also way more into bugs than people, so no friends for his kid), son of a mechanical engineer (a "real" science, but Mom spends too much time getting her hands dirty), and the son of the base psychologist (soft sciences are for people who can't hack it in physics). I can't wait for people to meet these characters.

*The like/love/hate mechanics for NPCs are awesome for building interpersonal relationships. We didn't use the borrowing skills aspect so much, but it was great that we discussed some major NPCs ahead of time and established those relationships. We also had fun with some people having opposite relationships (one person had a like with the physics assistant, the other has a hate. Lots of bickering ensues), or competing relationships (two boys have a like with one girl. But who does she like MORE?!). Best teen relationships we've ever played, even better than any PbtA games.

*This was my first time running a GUMSHOE game, and I was super nervous going in because I wasn't quite convinced that I had enough guidance from the book on building the mystery. But I plotted out my five major clues (I made a card with bullet points stating the "what" and the "who," ie "who had access to the research?" "The intern and the lab assistant.") and doled them out as the players wandered through the mystery (I do know better than to try to plot out how my players should make any discovery. Because...Fandible.)

Highly recommend this one to anyone who loves teen games. This hits a lot of the points that I want to play with games like Masks and Monsterhearts, giving lots of opportunity for teen socialization without necessarily dealing with the angst/kissing.

Using trickery and a oddity or two, the travelers have become the favorite problem solvers of the red fleet. All that’s left is to get out of Kaspurin before the pirates learn of their subterfuge.

The Kickstarter countdown for AcadeCon is now in hours! Will we see you in Ohio in November?
Last year, we went Into the Wilds on our first adventure. We gained a lot of experience and are ready to Level Up! with AcadeCon 2016.

All it takes is one wrong move to throw all hope of a safe escape overboard. Will they escape the clutches of evil, or meet a watery grave in the thrilling conclusion to SON OF A SHIPWRECK?

Stand by thyself, come not near to me, for I am geekier than thou.
Introduction
I'm a geek, plain and simple. My main interests here are role-playing games, technology, Android phones, crypto-anarchy (in an academic sense mostly), skepticism, and funny pictures of cats, not necessarily in that order.

I do a podcast called Fandible with some of my best friends, it's a live-play recording of us playing a variety of tabletop role-playing games. This should tell you all you need to know about me, really.
