Good luck to SpaceX on their first stage rocket recovery test.

During tomorrow’s CRS-3 launch to station, SpaceX will attempt to recover Falcon 9’s first stage. This test is not a primary mission objective and has a low probability of success (30-40%), but we hope to gather as much data as possible to support future testing.

After stage separation, when Dragon is well on its way to the ISS, the first stage will attempt to execute a reentry burn and then a landing burn over the Atlantic Ocean. Falcon 9 is carrying four landing legs, which will deploy partway into the landing burn. Eventually, SpaceX hopes to land the first stage on land.

Though success is unlikely with this test, it represents an exciting effort toward someday developing a reusable rocket.

If you were wondering what this Heartbleed Internet security problem was all about, this xkcd comic sums it up nicely.

One of our favorite webcomics, XKCD, has a great explanation of how the Heartbleed bug actually works.

The dilemma - I like Google+ a lot better than FaceBook.  But most of my friends are on FaceBook, and could give a damn about Google+.  AND I'm lazy; I don't want to post in both places.  That's too much copy-paste for one man to handle.

The solution - Create an RSS feed of my G+ posts with plusfeed.frosas.net/.  Then create an account with IFTTT.com, link my FaceBook.com account to IFTTT, and push all my G+ posts via RSS to FaceBook.  (Piece of cake!)

Let's see what kind of a mess I can make here...

I was glad when a friend asked me to write about roleplaying games (RPGs) for kids, because it's something I've put a fair amount of thought into, and I relished the excuse to look into it a bit mo...

I attempted to make an appointment with this doctor and was informed by his staff that I would be required to pay a $1650 annual "concierge" fee for the privilege of being one of his patients. This would be in addition to whatever he can wring out of my insurance carrier, of course. Ridiculous! Greedy! Elitist! Nonsense!

For a chain restaurant they make a pretty good pizza. It's geared toward takeout. There's only one small table at this location, and only two chairs for that table, making my meeting there with 2 other coworkers slightly awkward. (I wound up standing for most of it.) I'd eat 'from' here again, but maybe not 'in' here.

I have yet to try anything on the menu that isn't excellent. The Chicken Korma in particular is a favourite of ours. The staff and atmosphere are friendly, and their new location (25 Park Ave., a.k.a. 'the old Ground Round') means no more waiting for a seat on a busy night. It's our absolute favourite when a hankering for Indian food strikes us. If you like Indian at all, try it. It's 100% win!

A coworker brought some of Roly's delicious pastries to work this afternoon. I'm going back for seconds! The flaky guava filled one (I'm sorry I don't know the name) is just fantastic. I'm told that there is usually a wait inside, but based on what I tasted today it's worth it.

Service was painfully slow. It's in the ghetto, so expect that your fellow patrons may not be who you want to associate with.
