My employer uses Google Hangouts (actually, CfM or 'Chromebox for Meetings') throughout offices all around the world, and one of the neatest implementations of it are at 'tech bars' for internal customer service in each city. There is a 'meeting' connecting all the techbars 24/7, and people can walk up and get service from any other techbar (or all of them!) if the one in their building happens to be unstaffed at that hour; employees can even join the techbar meeting from wherever their PC is connected on the VPN. But there is something I would like to add to this great implementation... a 'ticker' across the bottom of the screen (advertising software updates, planned outages, events, etc.). Since there doesn't appear to be an app rolled to do such a thing (yet) on the CfM itself, my idea is to REPLACE THE USB WEBCAM with a separate miniPC that could feed video from a webcam, combine it with a 'lower-third' semi-transparent layover skin at the bottom, and output the resulting video over a USB cable that I'd plug into the CfM. Am I trying too hard -- is there a simpler way to do this? Anyone know of what it would take to make that connection from the outboard PC's HDMI output to a compatible (and generic) webcam replacement as a USB connector? Looking for some great ideas, or even a helpful 'DUH' workaround! #hangouts #google #tickerfeed

Something that I have been doing for years, but not well until recently. What other skill is MORE important in your family? (None...)
A few months back I wrote in depth about how to pray with your spouse. In those posts I covered the mechanics of prayer and we used the Lord’s prayer as our blueprint. I’d encourage you to re-visit those posts briefly, especially if you’re feeling stopped up in how to start a prayer habit in your marriage. For this post, however, I’d like to remind myself (and of course, readers!) of ... Read More

When you proactively lie to people, insisting that divorce, that failure, is the norm… well ultimately people will accept it as such. But it's not.

I always thought this notion was bunk; but now I'm hoping there's some truth to it.

I spent an hour or so with the NP-11 at my local Guitar Center; and was really impressed by the sounds, the fact that it can run on batteries (I don't know if I've ever cared; but I think having the batteries loaded as a backup might prevent the mad dash to reset after a temporary power outage on stage), and the slim dashboard (am so very tired of surveying an array of controls worthy of a 747 airliner whenever I sit somewhere to play).  And the price is great.  Almost pulled the trigger.  What has me sitting on the fence (and near to teetering off) is that the piano sound does not sustain for very long -- just hold down a note and listen to how quickly it diminishes.  Sad, because everything else about this instrument matches up with what I'm looking for.  (The only reason I'm still in the room is that it's so inexpensive maybe I'll still buy it and live with the short sustain -- and jack it into a higher-quality General MIDI sound source when I need the longer play...)

Introduction
A multi-platform desktop technician with a heavy bent toward MacOS. Builds WordPress sites just because he doesn't have enough stress in his life. Keyboardist and live-audio technician. Rides a 1984 700cc Yamaha Virago. Father to two humans, four cats; husband to one beautiful wife. Strong proponent of open source; vehement opponent of deceptively-named 'net neutrality'. Conservative, 2nd Amendment, limited government, states' rights evangelist now labeled a 'Right-Wing Extremist' by at least one federal agency. The wrong person to argue with if you think Alinksy was a pretty neat guy. If your god needs your help to kill me, Mine's Bigger Than Yours.

Of all the McD's on Indy's south side, this one has the best WiFi. AND there are electrical outlets at almost all the tables around the outside walls. It might seem insignificant, but this fact alone has steered me here from other stores perhaps dozens of times.
