So you think you can't capture stars, let alone star trails when you live in a big city with lots of light?

Think again! This was captured last night from our guestroom window in Granada, Spain.

1h30 of 30" exposures stitched together with StarStax and edited in LR+PS to bring out the stars more and layer the foreground.

A quick tutorial on how to correct perspective distortion in Lightroom 5.

Quite an easy procedure.

~ A sunrise over the Sierra Nevada ~

One good thing about winter is that the days are shorter and it's much easier to wake up before the sun rises and capture landscapes like this.

Taken from my window in Granada, Spain.

~ La Basilique du Sacré Cœur de Montmartre ~

Just trying different things to get the creative juices flowing. It's so hot that I haven't been able to go outside to shoot. So it's back to editing older images!

A new Lightroom tutorial!

"How to easily add light sources in Lightroom."

A little trick to bring to life those unlit lanterns and lamp posts in your images.

One of the most important skills of photography is Patience: Waiting for the right moment, and snapping that photo when all the elements work together. But it’s not always possible due to various reasons, such as time, permissions, accessibility, etc.. Luckily, there are instances where you can fix or enhance your image during post-processing to make it look the way you want it. Keep in mind that I am not advocating the “I’ll shoot and fix later ...

~ Dancing Maasai in Tanzania ~

Another shot of the Maasai dancing for us in their village near Karatu in Tanzania.
Editing these images is challenging since the sky is very bright and their skin is very dark, not to mention the amount of dust that's in the air due to them jumping around (which reduces the contrast).

Challenging but fun though. Helps me improve my luminosity masking techniques.

The World is but a canvas to our imagination.
Introduction
I'm a Travel, Documentary and Culture Photographer currently living in Granada, Spain.
I spend my time documenting foreign cultures and traditions and share them on my website Canvas of Light
I also lead private workshops, photowalks and teach online as a lead photography faculty at the award winning MatadorU online university.

Personal Mission:

Travel is a luxury. Not everyone can (or wants to) afford it.

My personal mission is to share the knowledge I acquire during my travels. The world would probably be an easier place if people understood each other, the different cultures and traditions.

I don’t like sharing photos of misery and destruction. They might create strong emotions but never really help solve the problems. I’d rather share the “why” and “how” than trying to shock with beggars and hungry children.

Certainly not as impressive as the Nasrid Palace, but well worth the visit. You can climb on top of the towers and have a gorgeous view of the city.

One of the best spots for watching the sun set over the city, overlooking the Alhambra. Great for photography too. The Silla del Moro building itself is quite unimpressive (ugly?) but it's absolutely worth it for the views.

Great location right in the center, next to the theater. Good wifi, English-speaking staff and nice clean rooms. It can get pretty noisy during weekends though, as it's right next to a busy touristy street.

The sculpture is interesting but not as much as the incredible view from this location. You've got Bilbao at your feet. Great spot for sunsets and easy to get to through the funicular.

A nice outdoor restaurant along the river with plenty of seating space (and some indoors). A good spot to meet with friends and have breakfast or tapas. The menus are ok but a bit on the expensive side compared to the rest of Granada.

A great getaway from the city, at walking distance from the city center! There's a nice open area for kids to play and plenty of tables for picnics.
