It's a small victory for one man, and a huge victory for technology when I'm able to search around for a song I heard years ago, but can't remember the name of the band or any of the lyrics. I just knew the intro and what the video looked like. In less than thirty minutes of searching, following leads, and taking educated guesses, I re-discovered a Swedish punk band called Raised Fist.

The Net is awesome.

If you like that, I've been checking out Ultravox again after a break of 25 years. Their style is all over the place — some songs are punkish, others are New Romantic or alienated electronica — but overall their early stuff is really good. This is their entire first album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snQvWjxySIQ

So here's a story about a guy. A guy who discovered that his cable subscription includes some channels that are, literally, talk radio.

"I'm paying for this shit?" he asked.

He flipped past ten talk radio channels and wound up on a channel that programmes the remote... through the cable box. His remote immediately stopped working and then the cable box crashed.

"What even?" he said, flipping off the TV.

Quick update from the Cyberpunk Librarian!

Hi all!

Cyberpunk Librarian is running late due to a bunch of projects coming to a head at the same time! What kind of projects? Well, I'm finishing editing and compilation of one non-fiction book, another non-fiction book is in the collection stages, and then there's that novella I'm working on...

No, I am dead serious. A novella and two non-fiction books. What the hell?

Anyway, I should have an episode out this week! Watch your feed and the social networks!

You mean Bill Nye the AWESOME Guy

This is the greatest picture of Bill Nye ever. It's like he made an album where he covers Tom Waits' music and this is the cover. The title?

Introduction
Hello. My name is Dan. I live online.

No, seriously, I do. My job, my passions, my hobbies, and my creativity all revolve around online life.

By day, I'm a public library web content manager which means I get paid to design, engineer, and put things online for the library.

In my off time, I write and create online content for myself and others. I'm a digital creative dabbling in illustrations, music, video making and podcasting. I'm the author of two books and I've written for several blogs and websites. While I still have a website or two, I've decided to bring the majority of my writing to Google+, a route taken by Mike Elgan and others and it's a method I agree with.

I write about everything that interests me, but if you glance at my drivel you'll see that I tend to write about tech, libraries, the remix culture, Linux and FOSS, online life, online video, podcasts, science, Japanese pop culture. and history.

I consider myself a cyberpunk -- a devotee of high tech and low life -- or at least high tech and low budget. One of my specialities is making tech work, and work well, even with a limited budget.

I have a degree in history, specializing in the history of science. I have an extensive background in astronomy with a focus on exosolar planetary systems. I'm a librarian who's worked in libraries for 18 years. Some of it made sense along the way.
Bragging rights
I wrote a couple of books. They're not great, but they're two more than most people write. :)
