Cyberpunk Librarian is BACK!

Come and join me for episode 44 and discover the Raspberry PirateBox! We're going to dive into what it is, what it can do, and why it might be useful for you on a personal level. It's a show that's a little more cyberpunk than librarian, but we never forget about the bibliopunks out there in the audience!

great episode. Been wanting to build something like a library/pirate box and wanted to build something with a Pi. Now I can combine them.

Just an update on the next episode!

I'm sorry I'm behind on getting this one out, but the subject of the show is something I'm literally working with right now! I'm trying it out, seeing what it does, and how it might be useful to cyberpunks and librarians alike. What is it?

Well, I'm not going to spoil the show, but I will let you know that this time around, it's gonna be a pretty geeky show. :)

Stay tuned!

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

Anime vs Reality

Old otaku like me know that anime can be absolutely beautiful, especially in the idyllic depiction of scene and setting. Sometimes, the art looks too good, like they've purposely romanticized a location.

Sometimes... not always.

Hi all!

I apologize for the lateness of the show. I've been gearing up and getting ready to present at Computers in Libraries in Washington, DC! The good news is that the next episode is fully written and ready to go, so recording it will be a breeze when I return! Meanwhile, if you're in DC at CiL, message me or stop me! I'd love to meet you!

See what this really means is that when I forget that I'm looking at a DOS prompt and not a bash terminal, I'll still get something when I type ls.

Microsoft is reaching out to Linux developers in a way that the company never has before. "The Bash shell is coming to Windows. Yes, the real Bash is coming to Windows," said Microsoft's Kevin...

So a very 80s Corvette commercial reminded me of the 80s themed episode of Teen Titans Go with the very 80s style song in it.

So I made this.

Introduction
Hello. My name is Dan. I live online.

No, seriously, I do. My job, my passions, my hobbies, and my creativity all revolve around online life.

By day, I'm a public library web content manager which means I get paid to design, engineer, and put things online for the library.

In my off time, I write and create online content for myself and others. I'm a digital creative dabbling in illustrations, music, video making and podcasting. I'm the author of two books and I've written for several blogs and websites. While I still have a website or two, I've decided to bring the majority of my writing to Google+, a route taken by Mike Elgan and others and it's a method I agree with.

I write about everything that interests me, but if you glance at my drivel you'll see that I tend to write about tech, libraries, the remix culture, Linux and FOSS, online life, online video, podcasts, science, Japanese pop culture. and history.

I consider myself a cyberpunk -- a devotee of high tech and low life -- or at least high tech and low budget. One of my specialities is making tech work, and work well, even with a limited budget.

I have a degree in history, specializing in the history of science. I have an extensive background in astronomy with a focus on exosolar planetary systems. I'm a librarian who's worked in libraries for 18 years. Some of it made sense along the way.
Bragging rights
I wrote a couple of books. They're not great, but they're two more than most people write. :)
