I didn't need my inhaler. Not once. This so rarely happens that I get excited whenever it does! :)

New post: Giving back to Pixabay!

I'm into sharing my stuff and I intend to share a lot more of it in the next few weeks! In Episode 32 of Cyberpunk Librarian, I talked about my love for Pixabay, a place for beautiful public domain images. Today, I started giving back.
In one of my recent podcasts, Cyberpunk Librarian - Episode 32, I talked about how much I love Pixabay for their awesome, public domain photos. I use them all the time for library work, blogging, a...

Daniel Messer was out treadmill running. He tracked 6.00 km in 38m:47s.

My workplace has a new treadmill so I gave it a shot. Was able to get my 6k in on lunch hour and now I have time for other things this evening!

This is 99% Invisible... I'm Roman Mars.

I love this intro so much that I shamelessly stole it for my own podcast. However, the one thing I wish I could emulate from Mr. Roman Mars isn't his intro.

It's his voice.

Public radio voice or public radio voices? Figuring out how different identities fit together on the airwaves is a challenge for many journalists.

Beautiful cool evening and the running was easy. One mid sized asthma issue, but nothing insurmountable.

A special episode of Cyberpunk Librarian is live!

If you're into the highly technical side of running library websites, specifically on the Polaris ILS, then here's your ticket! This is a recording of my presentation at the 2015 Innovative Users Group conference in Minneapolis!

Otherwise, a new episode will drop next Monday that will be more generally tech focused!

Daniel Messer was out running. He tracked 6.02 km in 39m:20s.

Had to baby my asthma through the last two kilometers but I made it I'm under 40 anyway. Not great, but not bad either. #RunsWithGeckos

Introduction
Hello. My name is Dan. I live online.

No, seriously, I do. My job, my passions, my hobbies, and my creativity all revolve around online life.

By day, I'm a public library web content manager which means I get paid to design, engineer, and put things online for the library.

In my off time, I write and create online content for myself and others. I'm a digital creative dabbling in illustrations, music, video making and podcasting. I'm the author of two books and I've written for several blogs and websites. While I still have a website or two, I've decided to bring the majority of my writing to Google+, a route taken by Mike Elgan and others and it's a method I agree with.

I write about everything that interests me, but if you glance at my drivel you'll see that I tend to write about tech, libraries, the remix culture, Linux and FOSS, online life, online video, podcasts, science, Japanese pop culture. and history.

I consider myself a cyberpunk -- a devotee of high tech and low life -- or at least high tech and low budget. One of my specialities is making tech work, and work well, even with a limited budget.

I have a degree in history, specializing in the history of science. I have an extensive background in astronomy with a focus on exosolar planetary systems. I'm a librarian who's worked in libraries for 18 years. Some of it made sense along the way.
Bragging rights
I wrote a couple of books. They're not great, but they're two more than most people write. :)
