The written date formats are explicit, but they're bloody hindering awkward to sort unless you parse them into numeric form.

The #Tempescope is an open source/open hardware "weather in a box" that plays through the next day's hourly forecast or shows the current ambient weather. It can create real raindrops and clouds as well as simulate lightning and sunlight. I need to make one of these!

There is nothing in the definition of the open source software that says you cannot write it for closed source OS or hardware.  If you're able to take the source, work on it and port it to Android, PC, Amiga or whatever - it is open.
