One big issue with concentrated solar is thermal degradation. Another is the need for accurate tracking. These guys claim to have tackled these problems with a conical PV design that spins.

They're claiming up to 80% temperature reduction, 20% efficiency boost, and direct AC production, which makes the inverter stage a lot cheaper too. Anyone know more?

I really don't like the video as it is full of unhelpful flowery speech but the idea is certainly interesting.  The website FAQ is more helpful in understanding the concept I think.  It will be interesting to see if the shape changes as they research more optimum designs.

What happens if the sun is directly over head and there is no period when the cell is in shade?
