Prof. Joe Konstan writes about his experience teaching a recommender system MOOC.
I'm just baffled by Coursera's addiction to the closed, rigid "course" model (and concomitant course calendar) if the result is going to be just 1% of students (262 of 28,000) who do what would be considered normal in a traditional college course (i.e. participate in the beginning, middle, and end). Surely it would be to everyone's benefit if Coursera would let go of the rigid course model and explored some other kind of presentation/participation model...? Oh, but then they would have to change their name! :-)
