Controversy after OCON 2016
I got back from an awesome OCON filled with guitar-cello duets , talent-show selfies , an awesome fireworks show , and oh, right, some interesting talks about Objectivism as applied to art, childhood education, and foreign policy. It was my second time goin...

Letter to the city government
So I just found out that, despite promising to end the program this month, the Mountain View city government has decided to extend its stupid food scraps collection pilot "indefinitely." This program cut garbage pickup services in half to once every other w...

A couple of great cartoons by Bosch Fawstin and the totally lackluster media reactions. Even Fox News refused to show his winning cartoon while talking about the assault on the art show in Texas.
By refusing to show Bosch Fawstin’s cartoon of Muhammad, Fox News and others not only submit to Islamic norms, they also abet the jihadists.

Response to a bunch of nonsense
This was originally going to be a Facebook comment in response to this article , but ended up being much, much longer. Wow, that is a hot pile of nonsense, but in a way that is illuminating. It's interesting in how it approaches some standard topics, and I ...

Debunking the environmentalist claim that global climate "wet gets wetter, dry gets drier." The punchline:

"Only 10.8% of the global land area shows a robust ‘dry gets drier, wet gets wetter’ pattern, compared to 9.5% of global land area with the opposite pattern, that is, dry gets wetter, and wet gets drier."

The sad state of free speech in college
I just saw some videos of the shameful assault on free speech at CSULA by students, faculty, and the president of the university. A speaker named Ben Shapiro was set to give a talk called "When Diversity Becomes a Problem" and had received permission and a ...

It finally launched! I've been working on this for a few months now and it's great to see it finally released. Obviously, this was the result of a ton of people doing awesome work, and it was my first big project on Google Express. I wrote the code to get shipping labels from FedEx. I knew I had been looking at FedEx labels for too long when I glanced at a package at a friend's house, saw the vague shape of it, and thought "that looks like a FedEx label."

I have the first test label we printed and shipped framed on my desk. Congrats to everyone who helped make this happen!

The Parable of the Fish Capitalist. An illustration of why Piketty is wrong.
If everyone’s rights are equally protected under the law, it does not matter, morally speaking, that we do not earn or possess equal wealth.

The (pay walled) fascinating history of the Standard Oil company. It illustrates the brilliance of Rockefeller and the injustice of the Sherman Antitrust Act. Many of the corporate governance innovations we take for granted these days, such as vertical integration or corporate R&D labs, were invented by Rockefeller.

Changing jobs at Google which means changing buildings and leaving behind relics of the current building. That's 99 bottles of Monster (I counted).

A beautiful winery with a pool and outdoor restaurant. The pool is perfect for those hot days, and there is a great atmosphere at night.

A lovely an comfortable inn. There was a bit of renovation going on, but other than that, the room was clean and featured all of the expected amenities. The sign by the road is poorly lit at night, so pay attention when you get close.

A superfluously large variety of pizzas. My favorites are Chicken Bacon Ranch and Steak Burrito. It's a steak burrito... pizza. Brilliant.
