Urban & small-space gardens  -

Somebody stole my strawberry plants last night!

This last winter, I planted a dozen strawberry plants in my front yard just off the sidewalk as part of a larger landscaping project.  This morning I came back from walking my dogs and noticed that all 12 have been dug out and removed, roots & all.

WTF?  Who does such a thing?  They're not even that expensive.  Now I've got a gaping hole in my front yard and I'm hesitant to replace them.

So bummed out about this.

100% removal of plants, roots and a bit of the dirt surrounding the roots, so no way it was rabbits.  (Unless they were using little spades.)  And no way someone could have convinced themselves the strawberries were "unwanted"--they had individual drip emitters running to each plant!

Anyway, I went out and replanted tonight because f*** them.

I love running and I love cute robots.  Surely I must therefore get one of these.

So I got a "hopper" of decomposed granite delivered to my house today.  I had no idea how much material that was but the guy at the shop assured me it was enough to mulch 200 square feet to 2 inches depth.  I ended up with so much extra material that I have to assume I mis-measured my yard!  I also found myself facing the conundrum of what to do with the leftovers.  It really sucks to have no place to store stuff in my small yard.  I ended up half-mulching some stuff in the back with the leftovers.

Gardening questions  -

I'm hoping to plant some strawberries in my garden soon and I'm wondering about the best way to set up my drip irrigation for them.  Drip line, individual button drippers, mini-sprinklers?  What do you recommend?

I have a raised bed of them but I don't use drip irrigation so my advice is logic based rather than experience. That being said, I think mini sprinklers are going to work best due because the runners (for new plants) they send out go in every direction. I suppose if you were diligent and forced the runners along rows, you could do drip as well.

Jeopardy is one of my favorite TV shows; I watch almost every night.  There are many categories where my knowledge is pretty weak, e.g. cabinet departments, English kings, African geography, Heisman winners, etc.  Since I occasionally daydream about getting on Jeopardy one day, I decided to fill in my knowledge of at least one category where I'm very weak: opera.  Therefore, I stand at my desk listening to some people singing in a language I don't understand.  Is this in any way going to help me?

The ultramarathon community just got an unusual new member.
NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity completed its first Mars marathon Tuesday -- 26.219 miles (42.195 kilometers) - with a finish time of roughly 11 years and two months.

It's early Saturday afternoon of a three-day weekend and my compost bin is now stuffed full.  What should I do next?

+Gaberham Lincoln That's an interesting idea but I don't have the space for one in my yard.  Also, my garden produces more material than I could compost on site, so alas I have to send it off to be composted elsewhere and then sold back to me in bags.  *sigh*

I for one will be curious to try this when it's available.
More protein than beef. More omegas than salmon. Tons of calcium, antioxidants, and vitamin B. In their secret R&D lab, the scientists at Beyond Meat concocted a plant-protein-based performance burger that delivers the juicy flavor and texture of the real thing with none of the dietary and environmental downsides.

Having trouble understanding why I'm paying so much to stay here. Location, location I guess. Small, dilapidated rooms, weak free "breakfast" that's better suited to a 2 star family motel, mandatory "resort" fee for a slow internet connection and a pool that's "closed for a private event."
