Virtual reality isn't just about gaming. Here are 10 ways VR is, and has been, seeping into the way medical professionals train, diagnose, and treat.

As if we didn't have enough time sinks
Nostalgia is a powerful force, but we live in a world where some memories are re-livable thanks to the Internet. Nothing really gets deleted from the Web, so from photos of last week's vacation on Facebook to learning world history, the past is accessible to all. Today, we're going to go back in time and…

This graph charts current capacity (top, red line) vis-a-vis demand. The idea is to keep demand below capacity in order to avoid power outages.

So far, so good.

It's supposed to be live, updated every hour.

This was the result of collaboration among unpaid volunteers. Even the web space is free.

Original idea came from Roberto (Obet) Verzola, whose mail I re-posted here some weeks ago.

Would be neat if the radio and TV stations picked this up, particularly when demand is critically close to supply (e.g., within 10%?), and advise the public to switch off unneeded appliances.

One day, a former bomber pilot brought up on pulp fantasies dreamt up a story. He would go on to write it as a not-so-successful TV show called Star Trek. The first show of a three year run was aired in 1966. Gene Roddenberry based the series on contemporary social issues. The futurist was looking at…

...hopes to beging shipping to equipment manufacturers "this year".

While I'm excited, I wish they were more specific. "This year" could mean a wait as long as nine months.
The wireless charging receiver can also be used to keep loose batteries and smoke detectors fully charged

I just wish they didn't call them "ancient"
They say technology advances at an exponential rate and a lot can change in a year. That's true, of course, so how impressive is it that so many of the programs we use today have been around for multiple decades? Quite impressive, if you ask me. Walking down Nostalgia Lane is nothing new here at…

Today, like most days, our office was filled with the clickety clack of furious typing as we were all hard at work. The silence was interrupted by David, one of our technical editors, sharing a link to all the covers of Byte magazine, going back to the first issue in …

My bucket list just got a tad longer
I've always loved libraries. Even as a young boy I was a regular visitor to our local library where the world opened up to me through books and reading. Many years later I look back on those early ...

I wouldn't call some of these hilarious -- entertaining, yes, if only for the flashback
