(See end of post for updates)
I'm currently getting many mails and bad ratings from people who are concerned about: Clean Master Security claiming SD Maids Unlocker is malware.
Let me assure you that these claims are completely false.
I have mailed CM Security, urging them to fix this. I would appreciate it, if anyone impacted by this could also write a mail asking them to fix this.
I've compiled the unlocker again without changing anything.
Same code, same signature, same version number, and suddenly it's no longer "malware".
This is unfortunately no satisfying solution for me as it has still been arbitrarily flagged.
Clean Master security classifies the unlocker as "Android.RISKWARE.hideIcon.fk
The unlocker has an option to hide it's shortcut. The hide shortcut button existed in the unlocker for over 2 years, the recent unlocker update made no changes in that regard.
Deactivating an Activity automatically removes it's shortcut from the app drawer. It's a very common piece of code (https://www.google.de/search?q=stackoverflow+deactivate+android+component
) and part of thousands of apps including apps from Google.
CM Security claims that the Unlocker has "a very low rating" and "may slow down or freeze" your device.
Neither is 4.65 a low rating, nor can the Unlockers code cause any such thing.
This does not seem to be a new pattern for Clean Master. It has already been in the news due to deceptive advertising tactics. As well as being shortly pulled from Google Plays top free app lists, allegedly because it recommended to uninstall Google Chrome and install their own browser instead.
From the Wikipedia article about "Scareware" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scareware
"This class of program tries to increase its perceived value by bombarding the user with constant warning messages that do not increase its effectiveness in any way."
If Cheetah Mobile wants clear this up, i would be happy to post their explanation here.
