I'm officially stepping down from maintaining the Samsung Vibrant:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55630578&postcount=1372

I haven't really worked on it or even booted into Ubuntu in quite a long time. Thank you to everyone who supported me in the past.

We normally do not put personal posts on this page, as they can be complicated matters and usually do not pertain to CyanogenMod news. That said, something is affecting us in a way it really hasn’t affected us before, and it’s hitting very close to home.

Within CyanogenMod, we have dozens of maintainers and hundreds of contributors; none of whom are paid employees. Yes, we get donations, but despite the jokes of yachts, helicopters, and private planes, it is really just enough to cover operating costs for servers and hosting. Occasionally, there is enough leftover in the team account to buy a device for a developer. What we are getting at here is that CyanogenMod is not rich.

There are, however, times where we wish that we were a full fledged company. It’d be nice if CM could pay for some full-time positions or help out team members when they are in need. Currently, we are experiencing a painful reminder of this limitation.

A member has had a pretty serious problem fall into his lap. +Ryan Scott (aka ChiefzReloaded), a device maintainer, has a rare infection known as Necrotizing Fasciitis. This infection is caused by bacteria that eats skin, fat, and other tissue; it is literally a flesh-eating disease. Ryan is going through the treatments that he needs to keep him alive, but unfortunately, that treatment quickly becomes very expensive to deal with, and it is no exception for Ryan. This disease has placed an incredible strain on him and his family, including his young children. The CyanogenMod team would love to be able to hand out a fistful of cash and help out as much as possible.

Love from the Community
Some members of our community have started a few initiates to benefit Ryan and his family. As we are unable to help out financially, we would like to lend our support for these community initiatives, and help spread the word.

+Polo Heysquierdo has started an Indiegogo page for Ryan at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/scott-family-fund. This page has some more details on Ryan’s condition and a method for you to help the effort.

Additionally, a huge community favorite and someone who the CyanogenMod team loves, +Deth Becomes You has started an auction with proceeds aimed at helping out Ryan. https://plus.google.com/u/0/107290707477228775864/posts/BYfaDHZeJKt

And last, but not least, you can send donations and words of support to Ryan directly via paypal. chiefz.reloaded@gmail.com

We understand that not everyone can help, but even if you can’t, sending Ryan and his family some kind words and sharing this message will go equally as far.

Thank You,
The CyanogenMod Team

So... umm... I wrote something with swiftkey while on CM10.1 and then wiped and restored a nandroid backup of stock (that also had swiftkey installed), and swiftkey remembered what I said with CM10.1....

Edit: Ah, it has data files on my sdcard.

NOTE: This is NOT a "typical Google, I hate Google, those jerks" post, and any such comments will be deleted.

As of Sept. 30th Google will now require Android developers to publicly disclose a physical contact address, if they have paid apps or apps with in-app purchases listed on the market. This address will be shown on the public app page, even before purchase. For businesses this is fine, for indie developers this is a big privacy concern.

Sign the petition to reverse the decision, or allow us to opt-out of selling our apps in countries with such restrictions:
http://www.change.org/p/google-inc-reverse-your-decision-to-require-android-developers-who-sell-apps-on-google-play-to-publicly-disclose-their-physical-address
While providing physical addresses of developers to paying customers (as Google already does) is reasonable, requiring all developers who sell apps to...

#CM11   #KitKat   #Vibrant
Status:
- Built
- No screen (not even a boot animation)
- Able to logcat in after enabling it in build.prop and authorization
- Probably other stuff, since I haven't been able to actually try anything

Given that KitKat had some optimizations for low-memory devices, I'm really looking forward to your builds.  People are constantly surprised by this old phone still being so updated.  If KitKat manages to become a daily driver on here, I will be ecstatic.

Programming conundrum of the day:

A ColorDrawable with an ever changing alpha and fixed bounds will correctly display.

A GradientDrawable with an ever changing alpha and fixed bounds will not correctly display.

A GradientDrawable with an ever changing alpha and changing bounds will correctly display.

Workaround:

drawable.setBounds(top, left, right - 1, bottom);
drawable.setBounds(top, left, right, bottom);
drawable.setAlpha(alpha);

CM10.1 nightlies for the Vibrant are a go. codeworkx accepted the pull request to add them today and the first one should show with the next nightly.

Didn't think this was ever coming, did ya?
CM10 stable (well, kinda sorta stable) release for the Vibrant is up on get.cm. Device changes since CM7.2 include:

- SUPL kinda works now. Some can get a lock in 30 seconds or under. (Thanks Moped_Ryder for gps.conf tip)
- 911 intermittent issues have been fixed. Please do not swap GPS or RIL libraries, or use GPS fix flashables!
- Upon bootup CM will now check if your IMEI is the generic IMEI, which can cause 911 problems.

Remaining issues include (but may not be exhaustive):
- GPS will fail sometimes (no icon in status bar); for most users it's after deep sleep without getting a lock before deep sleep, but don't rely on that being the only case.
