I created this graphic to visualize the way the ideas we launch on social media reach a network of people close to us. It is what they do to pass the idea along to their network, that creates a spread of those ideas throughout the universe. The original post is the fireworks being launched into the sky. The chain reaction of additional explosions off of the original represents the spread of ideas.

I included the graphic in this blog article. http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2017/09/tutormentor-strategy-go-forth-and.html

This is part of a 22x26" Thank You, Dan card given to me in 1990 by students and volunteers of the tutor/mentor program that I had led since 1975. I photographed the pages and then zoomed in on different sections to highlight some of the comments. I than put that into a pdf that I posted on Slideshare. I put the presentation into a blog article I posted today, talking about network building and how people have the power to help ideas spread by how they share them with their own network. Take a look. http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2017/09/tutormentor-strategy-go-forth-and.html

What are all the things we need to know and do to help kids living in high poverty areas have the support they need to move through school and into jobs and careers? What are all the things we need to do to help people hit by disasters like hurricane Harvey rebuild their lives? There's some common thinking in those questions. I wrote about it on my blog this week. http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2017/09/disaster-relief-floods-kids.html

This is one of many videos I've created since 2009 to share Tutor/Mentor Connection and Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC strategies. All could be done over, done better, or re-focused on another city than Chicago.

This cMap shows how volunteers who join tutor/mentor programs and stay multiple years often become evangelist and advocates who build needed support for these programs. Read the article and look at the links. http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2017/08/volunteer-involvement-in-tutormentor.html

This graphic illustrates the on-going work required to help a young person move through school. It also shows a calendar of events that show ways to help tutor/mentor programs in a community connect youth and volunteers and keep them connected to the program, and each other, for many years.

At key times each year almost everyone is doing the same thing. For instance as school starts in the fall, everyone is recruiting students and volunteers. In November everyone is looking for ways to support those students and volunteers who joined, while still recruiting to fill openings. And, programs are ramping up year end fund raising efforts. In January, National Mentoring Month draws attention to mentoring and programs are starting a new year, determining what their needs are for replacement volunteers, and beginning to look ahead to what they will do in the next school year. In May/June programs are celebrating work done in the past year, and ramping up planning to do it all over again the next year.

In all of these stages intermediaries, such as public leaders, celebrities, people who are concerned about poverty and inequality, businesses and foundations, media, etc. can be helping draw attention to programs so more people become volunteers and donors and that students and volunteers who get involved, stay involved.

Did you see all of that in this graphic? What role are you or your business, faith group, alumni or social group taking to support this process?

Every day something new captures public imagination and attention. As you read about, or watch, the eclipse, think of how you can be a light in the life of a youth in need.

+Kevin Hodgson introduced me to http://textanim.com/ this week and I've had fun creating messages like the one below, encouraging people to volunteer at tutor/mentor programs in Chicago or other cities.

So I took this a step further with a couple of Tweets, such as this. https://twitter.com/tutormentorteam/status/896090985481945089

I animated the Twitter handle for a tutor/mentor program and Tweeded that to them, with the message "pass it on". That was an invitation for them to look up one of the other tutor/mentor programs in Chicago and create a text animation of that organization's name, then post it on Twitter and/or G+.

If enough programs do this it will be a great example of programs working together to raise visibility for all programs in the city as a strategy to raise visibility for themselves.

Pass it on.

If you're involved with youth serving #tutor #mentor org what's strategy to develop 21st century skills among youth and volunteers? I put graphics and ideas like this in blog articles. Does your youth org write a blog with similiar stories? http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2017/04/21st-century-skills-are-these-modeled.html
