Preparing to Succeed as a Freelance Writer
Learning how to become a freelance writer is like learning a foreign language; it happens in stages, like a cumulative process. When I decided writing was what I wanted to do, the first thing I did was search for resources online that could help me bring my freelance writing career to fruition. The tips I found were very superficial, one-dimensional, even a little condescending, offering clichéd anecdotes like "Just go for it!" and "Believe in yourself, work hard, and you'll go far!"

This isn't a simple to-do list that will launch your successful freelance writing career. This is what you do after you've decided you want to become a freelance writer, but before you start seeking out clients and pitching to web magazines. This the your guide to preparing for success as a freelance writer, the things you'll need to do and the habits you should get into that will maximize your potential as a writer and make your future writing career as fruitful as it can be.

Micro-Blogging is the Next Phase of Content Sharing
It looks like the social media powerhouses will change posting formats in the immediate future, though whether this is to improve the actual user experience or to maximize marketing potential remains a matter of debate.

Our web habits are changing. At the onset of the age of over-sharing, we tended toward frequent posts that were short and not very meaningful; these short-and-sweet, "snackable" posts were also pretty forgettable. Over time, we've begun wanting to share even more. Or maybe differently.

The social media powers-that-be have observed our evolving interactions on and with social media. After so much time of posting quantity, we're now wanting quality. Users want the ability to create and share more meaningful content with better tools for visual storytelling, which is what micro-blogging promises to give us.

Key Components of an Effective Blog Post
I've been thinking about writing a lot lately. I've been actually writing a lot too, but in those (infrequent) times when I'm not writing, I've been thinking about how and why I write. It's made me wonder if there isn't some formula for writing, at least for certain forms of it. Then I wonder if there isn't some more-effective way of writing or some sort of template to use.

The answer: Yes, there is.

Book Review: Mr. Kiss and Tell, a Veronica Mars Mystery (#2)
I'm a little late to the game, but I've finally read the second installment in the Veronica Mars mystery series. It was released on January 20 with the Kindle eBook available a few weeks earlier. I'd been so busy that I didn't even remember it was due on shelves until my beau bought it for me for Valentine's Day. With my beloved book in hand, I devoured the book in about eight hours total spread over just two or three sittings.

Veronica Mars: Mr. Kiss and Tell picks up after the events of the film and the first book, The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line. Having caught Bonnie Deville's killer and solved the widely-publicized Dewalt-Scott case, Veronica Mars is being hailed in the press — even by Vanity Fair — as a hero and a very competent private investigator. Meanwhile, Eli "Weevil" Navarro's case is due for a verdict; after being wrongfully accused of attacking Celeste Kane, who shot Weevil in the shoulder at point-blank range when he startled her by offering her assistance, then having a stolen Glock planted on him by the police, Cliff McCormick — the finest public defender that the Neptune tax dollar can buy — has finally, if just barely, exonerated Weevil. In the seedy town of Neptune with its corrupt law enforcement and political control sold to the highest bidder, it's a rare event for targets of the Neptune Sheriff's Department to win their cases and walk free, which means this is cause for celebration.

Gaga joining American Horror Story, ARTPOP follow-up returns to Fame roots
It's been almost three months since artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball ended and according to reports, Gaga is hard at work on her fifth solo album, the follow-up to 2013's psychedelic electro-pop extravaganza, ARTPOP. If you count 2014's Cheek to Cheek recorded with jazz legend Tony Bennett and consider The Fame and The Fame Monster two separate albums, the upcoming creation will technically be her sixth.

Mother Monster is set to star in the next season of the FX hit anthrology series, American Horror Story. And that's not all: On Valentine's Day, Mother Monster got engaged. There have also been some reports about Gaga in the studio. Since we're more than a year into the ARTPOP era and have heard that's she's secretively working on her next album, this is going to be my look back over some of the strengths and pitfalls of ARTPOP as well as what we might expect from Gaga next.

Is it Spring yet?
It dawned on me this evening that I haven't written a regular ole blog update in a while. That's partly because although I've not really had all that much going on, I've been kind of busy. Between spending time with Michael and my content writing, it's actually kept my days pretty filled even if sometimes they get a little bit monotonous.
