The longest expressway networks on the planet, to scale, and how much of them was built prior to 2005.
This map is a simple schematic comparison of different countries' expressway systems. All the countries and networks on the map are to scale. Routes shown in red were constructed within the last 10...

That is a lot of tweets

We want to analyse* 260 million Tweets over the span of almost 200 days and find 'trending topics' by day and by location. We built a very performant solution that filters the noise, and displays the relevant conversations over a dynamic word cloud and geographic map.

Another old one: on finding superheroes in Singapore
A thousand windows of a hundred hotels face me all at once, black, punctuated by a flickering pulse on identical ceilings, blue, in synchronised media fulfilment. All I can see are his legs, thin, with tight black jeans and simple...

Yes!

In short: coffee is almost uniformly very good for you, with no negative health effects. But this goes only for black coffee, in moderate amounts, not for the coffee-flavoured milk-and-sugar soft drinks that coffee chains also sell.
A review of studies shows that coffee’s reputation as being unhealthy is undeserved, with the potential health benefits surprisingly large.

So glad this is making its way into the real world #design
A little more than a year ago I posted an article about designer Nikki Sylianteng’s To Park or Not to Park project, in which she undertook a guerrilla campaign to bring her reworked, demonstrably c...

New Facebook research on the filter bubble problem found that for their users, "who they friend and what content they click on are more consequential than the News Feed ranking in terms of how much diverse content they encounter."
Our latest data science research, released today in Science, quantifies exactly how much individuals could be and are exposed to ideologically diverse news and information in social media.

The coffee is good and the interior is gorgeous. Ask about the wallpaper.

A well thought-out and well-executed menu with the high prices to match. Probably works better as a bar than as a cafe (particularly with the opening time being close to noon) but when the coffee is on, it is excellent. Enjoyed the music selection too.

Great coffee in a beautiful space overlooking the nakameguro river. There's a shared table for working and free wifi.

The whole or half fried chicken is delicious but don't leave without trying an assortment of their house made sausages inspired by various countries. The Mexican with coriander and jalapeno is great.

Large space upstairs that's bright and open, even though it fills up fast. Excellent and cheery service. The food is good, if a little inconsistent. Unfortunately can't recommend the coffee over some of its more recent neighbours.

Cute neighbourhood cafe with big tables for working and a lovely vibe. The hickory smoked mushrooms with labneh and poached eggs are delicious. Great coffee too.

If you're not in the mood for a kebab, grab a couple of loaves of fresh baked Turkish bread and some of their excellent dips to take away.
