This is something that is definitely needed in these times. While open source licenses protect our access to software, the User Data Manifesto looks to extend this protection to our data (including metadata) and how it is used and accessed.

I hope to see more FLOSS projects follow the KDE Project's lead in the protection of our rights. Would be nice for proprietary software to do so as well. But the cynic in me doesn't see Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, etc. doing so any time soon...
