- KOCO 5 NewsAnchor/Reporter
Dan Thomas anchors weekends for KOCO 5 News in the Morning. Dan is a native Oklahoman and living his dream, working for KOCO 5 here in Oklahoma City.
Before joining KOCO, he served as an investigative reporter for Pensacola, Florida’s ABC affiliate for 8 years. While in Florida, Dan covered some of the biggest stories to ever hit that state. He’s proud of his reports on the BP oil spill which helped prompt a more thorough clean up to return the beaches to pristine condition.
Thomas is a veteran reporter of severe weather. He’s reported live during 6 hurricanes, countless tropical storms in additional to many tornadoes. Just after a devastating earthquake stuck Haiti, Dan hopped on a missionary plane and reported on the need for relief response in areas that had seen little or no outside help. He tracked medical supplies donated by local people all the way to hospitals that were overwhelmed by people injured in the quake.
Dan started his career right here in Oklahoma City as an Associate Producer but quickly moved on to West Virginia where he reported, produced and even hosted a parade. Last year Dan and his wife Sadie welcomed their first child, Lila.
Dan attended Putnam City North High School and spent a lot of his youth working at his family’s appliance store located at 4th and Broadway in Edmond. An Oklahoma State University alumnus, Dan looks forward to cheering on his Cowboys in person. He’s also looking forward to spending time on Lake Arcadia and Lake Texoma. One of his favorite things to do is taking his wife and daughter along to teach them how to wake board, water ski and fish. But most of all Dan is happy to be back with his Grandmother, Mom, Dad and Uncle so they can all see his daughter Lila grow up (and maybe help with a little baby sitting.)
