Looks like Rand has been giving people ideas! - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/negative-seo-myths-realities-and-precautions-whiteboard-fridayApr 27, 2012
Spotting this stuff should be easy enough.
You should be able to identify traffic sources in logs and analytics more than easily enough.
You should also be able to spot new links on whatever tools your use (Moz, Majestic etc.).
A qucik scan of new sources should tell you whether the page/site is legic ... and whether the link is questionable or not.
As to what to do?
If you find yourself under attack - note the details;
Origin URL, Destination URL, Link Text, Link code
all together in a Reconsideration Request, and fire it off from Webmaster Tools.
Title it as "Negative SEO Attack" or similar.
Then wait for G to have a look.Apr 27, 2012
The domain is too strong in my opinion, would take a lot more than comment spamApr 27, 2012
