Chromebook Chat  -

So, anyone doing Smarter Balanced testing having network issues? We are maxing out our connection at site and district level. The network tool provided did not give a realistic result in any fashion.

When our school / district bandwidth was low, Chromebooks worked perfectly. As it got close to capacity, they kept losing the connection and needed to be restarted. A very frustrating day.

+Mark Jenkins A sonicwall Pro2040 is almost a 10 year old device, there is no way it could handle the traffic, it would also not be able to provide any sort of deep packet inspection.

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone in this group is an educational technology TOSA. If so, would you mind sharing your job description? Either here or email me at danmcdowell@gmail.com

Thanks!

Teaching  -

Has anyone issued Chromebooks to teachers as their primary teacher computer? As far as I can determine, the two biggest draw backs include the need for cloud enabled printers and the loss of the ability to scan exams into Illuminate (a data and assessment tool).

We would go with the HP Chromebook 14 as our model because of te larger screen. We are a GAFE district.

Anyone want to argue for or against Chromebooks as a teacher computer?

In my limited experience, most teachers want a personal Macbook and iPad (so they can help the kids better) based on wanting the best for themselves. They are one of the biggest impediments to Chromebook adoption. Are many putting their own needs/preferences ahead of the kids'?
My bias is to buy teachers their Macbooks and iPads, install Chrome on them so they can work with the kids, but buy Chromebooks for the classroom.
BTW: this comment likely does not apply to any teachers reading this forum. You are the good ones and doing all you can to prepare our kids for what is ahead.

I like most of the what I see in the new Sheets. Except, when I collect longer responses in forms. Does anyone know if there an easy toggle so that the spreadsheet contains the whole response in an enlarged cell instead of only having just one line?

So.. We just got our shipment of Acer 720s and we are having significant issues with it connecting to our Aruba 801.11n access points - it will connect, but then it will drop the connection like crazy. Anyone have Arubas and the Acer 720?

After months of phone calls and emails with Aruba support, we were finally able to resolve our Chromebook connection issue. We had a very similar case where our Chromebooks and Chromeboxes with drop connection at random times. Some as often as every five minutes. This was very frustrating.

Aruba support finally figured out that by disabling "BA AMSDU Enable" and "MPDU Aggregation" under the HT option for any given SSID, the Chromebooks will retain a solid connection.

Please let me know if you need any more information on this as I know this issue can be very frustrating.
