Weird I get an error page on mobile at least. Thanks ! I'll head to the New Jersey one rather than the New York one in The Bronx.

So I've been recently asked to provide screencasts of some "typical" edit done with Photoflow, to better show how the program works and how long it can take for the whole processing.
That was really a good idea, so I decided to try producing the first screencast as soon as normal life could allow it.
This first attempt turned out to be a good lesson on free software vs. proprietary solutions!

For professional reasons my primary operating system is OSX, so I've tried to find an inhexpensive solution there.
The only free application I could find that can save screencasts under
OSX is the pre-installed quicktime player. However, after few unsuccessful attempts I finally gave up since I only managed to record files shorter than one minute or so (don't ask me why, as I
have not even tried to figure out what the problem was... for reasons  that will be clear in few lines).

Of course I have an Ubuntu system always ready in a virtual machine, on which photoflow runs as good as under OSX, so I fired it up without hesitations. A quick search on google pointed me to gtk-recordmydesktop: exactly what I needed, and free!

From time to time it is good to get trapped into some situation that reminds us why we should keep developing and supporting Open Source software!

The rest of the story is obvious... and my first, totally open source screencast can be seen here: http://youtu.be/TiBN3wXa6fs

It basically shows:
- how to open a RAW file and process the RAW data to produce an initial RGB image
- how to increase the global and local contrast in the mid-tones using luminosity masks
- how to crop the image with a fixed aspect ratio
- how to edit a radial gradient to add some vignetting effect

That was probably not my best edit ever, but it should give a reasonable idea of how to perform the basic editing steps and what kind of real-time speed one can expect from the current version of photoflow. Concerning speed, you will notice that the loading and initial processing of the RAW image takes quite long. That is because full-resolution data is being cached during this time, to speed-up the rest of the processing. I hope to make the whole thing a lot faster in future, but I'm presently concentrating on usability and stability more than speed optimizations.

Enjoy!

Excellent lunch menu, varied and well priced. Comes with spring roll, salad, rice as well. The spring roll was cold but the rest of the food is great. You can add on sticky rice or noodles if you wanted. The service was fast and friendly. Lunch for 3 was less that $40 so that's a winner.

Terrible pizza, undercooked base and sloppy on top. The owner had the nerve to come and argue about it with a paying customer. He then waved his finger in my face and wouldn't listen to my complaint. Still charged me for it. Apparently he can't cook half and half without undercooking. Complete moron, choke on the check. Avoid this place.

A must for those seeking a cosy place to take your bo. The white tiles remind me of the London Underground stations of old with a dark setting with a retro feel. Average $13 for a kicking cocktail is worth it, despite my wallet saying otherwise.
