Great news: zoo in Argentina's capital to close and become an ecopark
"This situation of captivity is degrading for the animals, it's not the way to take care of them," says the mayor of Buenos Aires, who is closing its 140-year-old zoo.
"What we have to value is the animals. The way they live here is not the way to do that."
All the animals will be moved to sanctuaries in Argentina and abroad, and the ecopark that replaces the zoo will become "a place where children can learn how to take care of and relate with the different species."
I hope other zoos will one day follow suit.
