Why is it so hard to remember the Parties swapped after the Civil War?  When we talk about how the Democrats were pro-slavery/anti-black (or whatever), we are talking about the ancestors to modern-day Republicans.  Simple history people.

The Democratic Party has been waging war against Blacks since the election of the first Democratic President, Andrew Jackson who owned slaves. They were the party of slavery whose voters included the cotton farmers.

In their party platforms from 1840 to 1860, the Democrats supported slavery. In the 1860 elections, the country was deeply divided. Abraham Lincoln and his main Republican rival, William H Seward both wanted to abolish slavery. As we all know Lincoln won the nomination and later was elected President.

On the Democratic side, the party was split between Northern and Southern Democrats. The southern favorite, John Breckinridge wanted a Federal law protecting slave owners’ rights in the new states. His chief rival, Stephen Douglas was moderate and did not think a Federal law was needed. But he, like his rival Breckinridge, also wanted the state’s residents to decide whether or not to have slavery.

We all know the rest of the story. Lincoln’s election sparked the Civil War. After the war was over  and slaves were emancipated, the Democrats became the party of Jim Crow laws and the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).

The Jim Crow laws of enforced segregation started in about 1877 after the withdrawal of Union troops from the south. Many southern whites were resentful that their former slaves became their social equals and competed with them for jobs.

That big shiny dome? I remember seeing it down by Harbor Island. You could hardly miss it…and now it's mothballed.

Oh, well, what's $2.2 billion?
Trying to fashion a shield against a sneak missile attack, military planners gambled on costly projects that flopped, leaving a hole in U.S. homeland defense.

Keep the Faith
"Keep the Faith" were some of the last words my dad ever spoke to me.  He had become lucid enough and my family knew he was close to the end, so they got me on the phone.  I was in South Dakota, at my first base as a member of the Air Force's Enliste...

I have probably written down some thoughts on this before, but the whole, trying to get a stagnant church to grow and evolve thing has me thinking again. Every single time God as issued a change for humanity, he/she has done it through a person. Let's kee...

Signed it. What they did is shameful. Maybe it's time for journalists to be held accountable too. I consider that abuse of power.
Go Left America is hoping to gain the 100,000 signatures in 30 days needed in order to get President Obama to act on the petition.

Fox is the ONLY so-called "news" organization that has ever defended itself in court by successfully arguing that there is no law, rule or regulation against LYING to distort a news broadcast.

On February 14, 2003, a Florida Appeals court agreed, ruling that there is absolutely nothing illegal about lying, concealing or distorting information by a major press organization. The court reversed the $425,000 jury verdict in favor of journalist Jane Akre who charged she was pressured by Fox Television management and lawyers to air what she knew and documented to be false information. The ruling declares that it is technically not against any law, rule, or regulation to deliberately lie or distort the news on a television broadcast.

In simple English...

"An appeal was filed, and a ruling in February 2003 came down in favor of WTVT, who successfully argued that the FCC policy against falsification was not a "law, rule, or regulation", and so the whistle-blower law did not qualify as the required "law, rule, or regulation" under section 448.102 of the Florida Statutes.[8] ... Because the FCC's news distortion policy is not a "law, rule, or regulation" under section 448.102 of the Florida Statutes,[8] Akre has failed to state a claim under the whistle-blower's statute."[6] The appeal did not address any falsification claims, noting that "as a threshold matter ... Akre failed to state a claim under the whistle-blower's statute," but noted that the lower court ruled against all of Wilson's charges and all of Akre's claims with the exception of the whistleblower claim that was overturned."

For all the un-simplified legal jargon ~ The judge’s full list of rulings pertaining to various aspects of the case can be found at:

http://caselaw.findlaw.com/fl-district-court-of-appeal/1310807.html#sthash.Xd8h5Lft.dpuf

The judge’s final ruling on the case at large can be found in the 11th paragraph (as follows):

"Because the FCC's news distortion policy is not a “law, rule, or regulation” under section 448.102, Akre has failed to state a claim under the whistle-blower's statute.   Accordingly, we reverse the judgment in her favor and remand for entry of a judgment in favor of WTVT."

In simple English, Akre lost her case because the judge agreed with Fox’s argument that the FCC's news distortion policy is not a “law, rule, or regulation” under section 448.102.

Now, if you want a GREAT laugh while seeing how pervasive the LYING is at Fox, Jon Stewart citing Politifact:

Torture, after all, is a moral issue. Many people look to Christian leaders for moral guidance in stressful times. So why are we not hearing from them now?
We can't pretend it wasn't torture anymore, because the facts weren't swept under a historical rug this time....
