Im in school and we have italian which is a waste as we all use google translate plus it affects grades as you have a ton of work which makes you tired and then you dont work as hard ib school
Actually, aside from padding out the limited knowledge that can be passed on in limited schooling hours, it's skills for life. In Scotland we have Curriculum for Excellence - idea being that kids come out the education system with necessary skills for life. If you struggle to gather information and learn to effectively communicate it in homework returns, you'll likely struggle at college, university or in the working world. 
Homework's fine if it's to enhance study but not if it's set by the State to make up for lost time in the classroom.
