Maybe we just need more compotent drivers. As in 8 years there'll still be cars ont eh roads that are 20+ years old making up a much larger proportion of the self driving cars..
Will it prevent other cars driving into them? Nope, so how can Volvo claim zero collisions?
In drastic situations it would be fault of other vehicles if and when collisions occur, but hopefully other vehicles shall compete to incorporate safety features like this, and laws should help by mandating this feature rather along other safety features such as seat belt and air bags.
They lead others follow when it amounts to safety.
