While an interesting exercise in creating the appearance of detailed complexity, and contrasting the jagged cliffs with the rectilinear shapes of buildings, this monotone sketch misses the major appeal of Positano - a kaleidoscope of coloured buildings as far as the eye can see. Pen and ink freehand sketch by Dai Wynn on 300gsm rough texture Arches paper. 29.5 cm high by 42 cm wide by 0.1 cm deep approximately. A3 standard size.

This oil painting is an example of what to avoid. While the pink sky merging with the blue sea is rather pretty, the pseudorandomly placed houses need to be rectilinear to be believable. Thus, an oil sketch worth two or maybe three hours, actually takes about eight fiddling with a fine rigger brush. Even now, some of those little windows are wobbly.

Anyway, this is an oil sketch of the southern part of Amalfi on the Mediterranean coast south of Naples in Italy. 17.78 cm high by 22.86 cm wide by 0.3 cm deep. Unframed.
