What Do You Regret Spending Time Doing?
My son told me today that Star War's was 40 years old.  His fourteen year old face, animated with a smirk that made his dimples come out, beamed when he said, "Mom, Star Wars is 40 years old, so that makes you older than Star Wars." I'm not sure why this is...

After graduating from Northwest Nannies in 1988 I was hired immediately for a full time, live in position. I worked full time as a Nanny for the next ten years until I married and had children of my own. While my kids were growing I stayed connected to the child care industry by volunteering in the classroom, at church, and maintained my relationship with Northwest Nannies through temporary work. I took a few classes in 2011 and ended up with a Certified Nursing Certificate, which qualified me to also work with the elderly.  I don't consider myself a teacher, but I do think of myself as a bit of a bossy caregiver. With over 20 years of reading aloud and singing silly songs to children, I'm passionate about storytelling, creative expression, and encouraging the imaginations of all ages. I've been blogging since 2006 at Dapoppins.com

Portland is a foodie city - and Pip's offers an artisan doughnuts at a great price. Served "just-made" and oh so good! Their Chai is kinda out of this world too. The donuts are mini- you get a dozen (enough for even the biggest doughnut lover to share) for an incredible price. If you are super health conscious, just eat one and share the rest ) cause, no one EVER died of eating one mini doughnut!

Even with the new Walmart in town, this Fred Myers is busy and well loved. The holidays are still quite the traffic jam, but it's worth braving for the great selection, friendly cashiers, indoor onsite Starbucks, and well, it's Freddy's. One of the last remaining local icon's that my grandparents and parents frequented.

Great little place in Battle Ground with a fun atmosphere. The place is super busy in the mornings and afternoons, so you know it's good + there is easy off street parking in back and outside seating for the summer weather.

The kids absolutely love this indoor play park and it's great for parents too, but as a long time local career Nanny I was surprised at the lack of wristbands or security. On a summer day, with the beautiful large garage style doors open, it wouldn't be too difficult for a child to wander away, or worse...this is in the City Center after all. #Justsayin

I've had T-Mobile for for almost ten years and have heard about the horrible costumer service over and over. This has not been my experience. Recently I was in the Downtown Portland store looking for a new phone because my Nexus 5 is feeling really outdated. Brian Le Roy walked me through the fees and benefits of a big pre-order upgrade quickly and with confidence. As a thoughtful shopper I didn't walk out with a new phone, but after listing the pros and cons I had planned to return and ask for him when I made my final decision. Part of that decision involved whether or not to pass on my glitchy Nexus to my kids. The Nexus is paid for but feeling it's age. In phone years the thing is ancient but still under a fantastic extended warranty. When I called T-Mobile about this and named the issues I was having they upgraded me for free (minor shipping/handling fees) to a much better phone that I could transfer to my kids. Unfortunately it's enough of an improvement that it makes no sense now for me to stretch my budget to get the phone I want instead of settling for the phone I need. I wanted to commend Brian and T-Mobile for their great service. My family suggested I actually set aside the money I need for an upgrade and pre-pay for it - (I'm always telling the kids to save for their devices but I'm OLD, I have CREDIT) but this would be a great example for them so - when I have SAVED enough, I will be back to the Portland Store and asking for Mr. Brian Le Roy. You might want to ask for him to, he's the Bom dot Com as the whippersnappers say...

Wonderful store. They have a fantastic selection of glue, mediums, trinkets, washi tape, papers, templates, just everything. Many unique, hard to find, crafting items. And it's in a great part of town.
