Over the past ten years I have been working with young people. Currently the Coordinator of an Intel Computer Clubhouse for Northern Rivers Social Development Council, I was previously a Youth Connections Caseworker in the employ of NORTEC Youth Services, NSW, AU. Prior to this, a Youth Worker for Work'n it Out - Youth Transition Service, Otago, New Zealand. I entered the field a Youth Supervisor with the MALCAM Charitable Trust - Alternative Education & Youth Service Corp, where I tutored a life skills day program, woven with digital media projects, wilderness journeys and community work over a 20 week course. My full-time and consecutive employment experiences since 2004 have honed my teaching pedagogy for maintaining creative engagement, while holistic case management and project coordination has become a tradeskill. The diversity of groups and programs I have facilitated has equipped me to build quick and effective interventions for young people with complex needs, improving social and educational outcomes for themselves, their families and their communities. A qualified K-12 Teacher and Vocational Trainer I specialise in Visual Arts and Digital Media Technology. Over the past eighteen years I have trained in the arts acquiring knowledge of the creative potential working for youth. My own practice is an integral and informing element of my work socially. I see the arts as the tools of culture, allowing me to identify and engage with those across culture and disparity with ease. I have a high regard for outdoor education where I've seen the best outcomes for youth develop from confidence by challenge programs. With extensive wilderness experience my professional career counts many youth expeditions and recreational pursuits. I have trained in Wilderness First Aid, Navigation, Risk and Leadership with Mountain Safety Council New Zealand. I seek training regularly to upskill on latest practices.
