Work
Occupation
Arts Education, Digital Media Technology, Specialist in Youth Engagement.
Skills
Over the past ten years I have been working with young people aged 12 - 20 years. Currently the Coordinator of an Intel Computer Clubhouse for Youth Connections North Coast, Lismore, NSW, AU; I was previously a Youth Connections Caseworker in the employ of NORTEC Youth Services. Prior to this, a Youth Worker for Work'n it Out - Youth Transition Service, Otago, New Zealand. I entered the field a Youth Supervisor with the MALCAM Charitable Trust - Alternative Education & Youth Service Corp, Dunedin, NZ. There I tutored work and life skills, woven with digital media projects, wilderness journey's and community work over a 20 week program, twice a year for twenty young people. My full-time and consecutive employment experiences since 2004 have honed my teaching pedagogy for maintaining creative engagement, while holistic case management and project coordination has become a tradeskill. The diversity of groups and programs I have facilitated has equipped me to build quick and effective interventions for young people with complex needs, improving social and educational outcomes for themselves, their families and their communities. A qualified K-12 Teacher and Vocational Trainer I specialise in Visual Arts and Digital Media Technology. Over the past eighteen years I have trained in the arts acquiring knowledge of the creative potential working for youth. My own practice is an integral and informing element of my work socially. I see the arts as the tools of culture, allowing me to identify and engage with those across culture and disparity with ease. I have a high regard for outdoor education where I've seen the best outcomes for youth develop from confidence by challenge programs. With extensive wilderness experience my professional career counts many youth expeditions and recreational pursuits. I have trained in Wilderness First Aid, Navigation, Risk and Leadership with Mountain Safety Council New Zealand. I seek training regularly to upskill on latest practices

    Dustin took to drawing and designing patterns as a teenager and developed a tribal aesthetic which translated into tattoo work for his friends. From these black ink drawings he began experimenting with coloured drafting markers and a colourful stylisation ensured. Later investigating the forms of native New Zealand flora Dustin produced his first set of exhibited works in 2000. Appeal for these works lead to a series of murals where he began exploring acrylic paint and digital rendering for the first time. In 2007 out of necessity to develop, Dustin shifted to graphic software that enabled the exploration of a larger format. He went to work transposing his drawings to this new scale and began painting with enamel on acrylic. In order to create these paintings from ink origins with their fine lines, Dustin bent paper clips to apply the paint in pools, stipple and ridges. Technically the texture of these works is similar to an aboriginal approach created through the tapping out of the paint. For Dustin this method is seen as a simple mechanism in the meditation to satisfy his artistic vision.

Introduction
// ARTIST STATEMENT

As an artist I rely on the line observed in nature, the line that defines the power of our world unconditionally. This line is the trajectory in the stylization of my art, pointing to the arc as it corresponds to the Dream, producing movement from point to point as it describes the nature of our sacred journey and the choices we live. The line functions to a universal analogy, it exists as silent knowledge, often overlooked in everyday life, yet unmistakable and unforgettable wherever it is encountered.

Imbued with life, the intended line traces the existence of powered representations. The scope of this line is the locus of all my work. Read sequentially the narrative of this series expresses its multidimensionality, ubiquitousness and scale. Expressed through consecutive works and mixed media: ink through to paint and so the design directs the eye with colour, and in ways balances the monochromes in racy compositions to enliven the line.
