I'm back in Tanzania. That means fresh adventures and amazing photographs from #DispatchesDNLee
And you can request a postcard from Tanzania!

Dispatches from Tanzania 2015 #DispatchesDNLeeI'm returning to Tanzania to do field research study African Giant Pouched Rats. I'll be in the field for 5 long months. I'll be trapping pouched rats, observing their behavior, and learning more about their natural history. This time I will also focus on deciphering the reproductive behavior of female pouched rats. Want to stay updated on all of my adventures: the science, the food, my friends, and local cultural events? What a postcard from...

good read
In 1968, for the first time ever, humans got an image of Earth from space: The blue oceans. The swirling clouds. The continents without political borders. The thinness of the atmosphere. The imagery may have influenced both...

#DecolonizeSTEM  Narratives
“I believe that the long term future of the human race must be space and that it represents an important life insurance for our future survival, as it could prevent the disappearance of humanity by colonising other planets.” – Stephen Hawking, February 20, 2015 Speaking at the Science Museum of London earlier this year, renowned physicist and former University of Cambridge Lucasian Professor of Mathematics Stephen Hawking shared his thoughts on ...

I have a whole lot of agreement with your article +DN Lee. No matter where we go, we humans take all our good and bad luggage with us. Moving from Earth (that we humans, are arguably making less hospitable for life) to Mars, a dead planet for Earth life to survive on.

And whatever it would take to make a dead planet habitable for humans, and all the other Earth lifeforms, can be turned right around and applied to Earth. It also would be cheaper and more effective.

And while I do hope for successful colonies to be established, our core nature will haunt us on the various places we go throughout the solar system. We'll fight and kill for resources. Set up rival clans and tribes. Generally ignore what we're doing to the limited resources around us, and then move on to a new location that offers more opportunities to exploit.
