Progressive Trance The name Progressive Trance is a term that is used by many people to describe a particular style of Trance that is essential bordering on House music as opposed to being 100% trance. Progressive Trance is essentially the same as Progressive House due to the fact that the music is made up of traits seen in both House and Trance music. Progressive itself is a genre of dance music that consists of long build ups, breaks and often a climax, and is generally 8-9 minutes in length. Although not all Progressive music will have the exact same pattern, this is a common structure. What separates this Progressive Trance from the standard Progressive sound is the greater tempo range which is generally from 120-140 bpm. Some argue that the best way to identity what is Trance, Progressive and House is simply done by the tempo with music below 136 being Progressive Trance and everything below 130 being House. However with the continued growth of the Trance music scene, even relying on tempo has become difficult as there are an increasing number of trance productions much below the 136 bpm threshold, hovering around the 138 mark. To go better describe the differences between Trance and Progressive Trance, we can look into the make-up of the music where traditional Trance will have more focus on the melodies and power while having less focus on the percussive sounds. In addition to this, you can identify with Trance music a heavier reverb and delay which produces more atmosphere in the sound. But then you can look to the name "Progressive" which supports the notion that Progressive Trance is more about the progression of the track, with a steady flow throughout, as opposed to traditional Trance Music that is made up of spectacular build ups and equally spectacular breaks. The similarities between Progressive Trance and House is something that gets much attention from Trance enthusiasts as there is often a strong desire for Trance music to be more on the side of Trance than House with the latter getting less support especially from Trance music lovers who are more accustomed to the regular sound of trance with the higher tempo
