If the headline doesn't grab them, the rest is naught.
Copyblogger advises avoiding clever headlines, but we say, “Bunk!” A headline that plays with language entices the reader to read more.

In which I reframe the power of the frame for bloggers who take their own photographs.
A very simple photo tip for bloggers is to frame your photos if you want to extend the time that viewers spend looking at your images.

Zappos is still my role model for how to build company culture around something that benefits the customer. And it looks like fun to work there.
Can businesses create online communities if their purpose is to make money? Zappos sells and shares through its social innovation on Facebook and Twitter.

The schmoe who didn't teach his writing class anything gets a snappy comeback from Q. Lindsay Barrett.
Today's blog post is by writer Q. Lindsey Barrett The thing floating about the interwebs from a former writing teacher . . . ? Yeah, he makes a few valid points. Well I am a writing teacher and I say ignore him. This is what I have told my students about what they will need to do to sustain themselves as a writers in a world where this kind of virtual slap has become commonplace—You will need to create your own community of writers. Here is the r...

The viral organgutang, explained.
It’s a small moment but in terms of emotion, that coin of realm of all great scene writing, the orangutang of the Barcelona zoo delivers the goods. I’ve watched this clip via The Guardian’s US enews multiple times and it still makes me laugh. That’s rare in this cynical, jaded age so I thought I’d …

Moz rocks helpful info.
With the growing resistance to interruptive marketing, it's clear that consumers are fed up with low-value, high noise marketing. But are some of these tactics and channels still an effective ingredient within a holistic marketing approach? Better yet, is inbound marketing any better in the eyes of the consumer?

Even dark experiences have a shining, silver light. My epiphany came about storytelling for a woman who can't talk.
Now that I have walked my mother, my sister, and my aunt up to the exit gate, I am convinced that the only way to keep someone alive is storytelling. I'll be working on the demented woman's story over the next few weeks. I plan to put it in my novel. Even though she's in the darkness of dementia, she inspired me to bring her story to light.

Exhaustive (and exhausting) but great. A lot of homework here.
A few weeks ago I get this email out of the blue from Jimmy… The email said: “The first time I used your Skyscraper Technique I got 30k pageviews, 1k email subscribers, and currently rank #2 for my target term.” Needless to say, I was intrigued. So I pressed him for more info. Turns out […]

Attitude-adjusted targeted marketing in San Antonio. #legalmarketing
One of the most common mistakes in marketing is to assume that your product appeals to everybody. It doesn't. Especially in the early "unknown" phase when very few people recognize your brand. You are far better off learning how to target an audience by figuring out the most likely people you think will buy what you're selling than appealing to the masses.
