RUMOR: ABC PLANNING MS. MARVEL MINISERIES

ABC may be developing a show based on the recent breakout hit Ms. Marvel.

According to a since-removed Reddit post(via ComicBookMovie), ABC is canceling the low-rated American Crime, but still wishes to work with creator John Ridley (an Oscar winner for his screenplay for 12 Years a Slave), hence their recent deal with him for a new Marvel-based series. The rumor says Kamala Khan caught his eye and is the character he's moving forward with. The show would purportedly focus mostly on her obsession with superheroes, and cultural issues like Islamaphobia. That way it would slowly ease her into being a superhero, without necessarily needing Captain Marvel to serve as Kamala's inspiration, given the Captain Marvel is still years away.

The rumor goes on to state that the Kamala Khan show would act as the winter bridge between the fall and spring runs of Agents of SHIELD, making it a shorter run series, like Agent Carter. The Ridley project is not believed to be the also in development SHIELD spin-off.

It may be wise to take the news with a grain of salt, however. The Reddit user claims to have inside knowledge of Marvel dealings, but has not produced any documentation or other information to verify it.

Hasbro CEO Confirms Plans for ‘Transformers’ Cinematic Universe

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner has officially confirmed plans for a ‘Transformers’ expanded universe, reports TFW2005.

At the 2015 Q1 Earnings Conference Call, Goldner took a question during the event, revealing plans for the “Transformers” expanded universe and a tentative release date for “Transformers 5.”

“Our plan with the studio and filmakers you may have heard some writers being hired and we have in fact brought in Akiva Goldsman to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers. We think there are any number of stories to be told from the brand that has been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie [TF4] to happen in 2017.”

Rumors about a “Transformers” expanded universe first circulated when Paramount Pictures hired Akiva Goldsman to create a “writers’ room” for the franchise with director Michael Bay, executive producer Steven Spielberg and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. The studio appears to want to fast-track several sequels and spinoffs.

WHY THE CAPTAIN MARVEL MOVIE IS LOOKING EVEN BETTER IN RETROSPECT

When Marvel Studios announced last month that they are in active development on a Captain Marvel movie, the geek community cheered. The character will be the first female superhero to get her very own solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it's an event that fans have been calling for for years. But if you need any further proof that that making the film is a good idea, all you have to do is look at the sales numbers for the current run of Ms. Marvel comics.

Sales numbers have been coming in, and in the comic book world there doesn't seem to be any character hotter than Ms. Marvel. Diamond Comics has posted their list of the top selling graphic novels and trade paperbacks from their distributors in October, and reports that the collected first arc of G. Willow Wilson's recent Ms. Marvel comics was the best selling book of the month. What's more, the New York Times Best Sellers list for paperback graphic novels had the book ranked at number two behind the children's bookSisters from author Raina Telgemeier.

As regular comic book readers know, however, the interesting twist that comes with this story is the fact that the Ms. Marvel featured in this best-selling book isn't the same Ms./Captain Marvel that will be featured in the upcoming 2018 feature film. As was confirmed by Studio President Kevin Feige during Marvel's special presentation last month, the new movie will feature Carol Danvers - the original Ms. Marvel - as the lead character, but G. Willow Wilson's books instead feature the reinvented Ms. Marvel who got her own series beginning this past February. Centering on a Muslim teenager named Kamala Khan (shown above) who is transformed into the new Ms. Marvel, the new books were a critical success, and, as you can tell from the trade paperback's sales, very popular with comic book readers. Regardless of who the person is under the costume, though, what this news tells us is that people are not only ready, but excited to start seeing more stories with female superheroes.

POSSIBLE FIRST LOOK AT JARED LETO AS JOKER

A set pic has surfaced of Leto showing someone his phone with a picture of himself as Joker.

While the image is blurry and grainy - a white coat, white and red make-up and green hair can be seen (reminiscent of Fran Miller's The Dark Knight Returns).
