UPDATE: As of this morning we have lost DNS routing to our domains and Gerrit is now offline - with little doubt as a reaction to our blog post yesterday. The blog post in its entirety is pasted below.

A fork in the road

Last week, we released the final CM-13.0 releases, updated to the latest security patches, in anticipation of what follows.

Yesterday, Cyanogen Inc (Cyngn) announced that they were shutting down the infrastructure behind CyanogenMod (CM). This is an action that was not unpredictable given the public departure of Kondik (cyanogen himself) from the company, and with him our last remaining advocate inside Cyngn’s leadership.

In addition to infrastructure being retired, we in the CM community have lost our voice in the future direction of CM – the brand could be sold to a third party entity as it was an asset that Kondik risked to start his business and dream. Even if we were to regroup and rebuild our own infrastructure, continuing development of CM would mean to operate with the threat of sale of the brand looming over our heads. Then there is the stigma that has grown to be attached to anything named ‘Cyanogen’. Many of you reading this have been champions of clarifying that the CM product and CyngnOS were distinct, yet the stain of many PR actions from Cyngn is a hard one to remove from CM. Given CM’s reliance on Cyngn for monetary support and the shared source base, it’s not hard to understand why the confusion remains.

It will come as no surprise that this most recent action from Cyngn is definitely a death blow for CyanogenMod.

However, CM has always been more than the name and more than the infrastructure. CM has been a success based on the spirit, ingenuity and effort of its individual contributors – back when it was Kondik in his home, to the now thousands of contributors past and present.

Embracing that spirit, we the community of developers, designers, device maintainers and translators have taken the steps necessary to produce a fork of the CM source code and pending patches. This is more than just a ‘rebrand’. This fork will return to the grassroots community effort that used to define CM while maintaining the professional quality and reliability you have come to expect more recently.

CM has served the community well over its 8 long years. It has been our home, bringing together friends from all over the world to celebrate our joy of building and giving. Its apt then that on this Eve of a holiday we pay our respects. We will take pride in our Lineage as we move forward and continue to build on its legacy.

Thank you & Goodbye,
The CyanogenMod Team

I've been using cm as my daily driver since gingerbread :(

Looking forward for lineageOS

I look forward to the next great thing from this talented team. It feels like bah hum buggery that Inc pulled the plug on CM over the holidays, but it may also be the most "down" time to do so.

Edit: I just used the remainder of my monthly data quota downloading final CM snapshot builds for the devices I currently have running CM14.1 nightly builds. If that server goes down and any of y'all need CM13 snapshots for acclaim, ether, hammerhead, or peregrine say hey and I'll upload to Google Drive.

sheds real tears on my G1 and HTC HD2 Farewell!😢

So does this mean I wont hear tinkering techies say "I cant do/use (insert phone feature) atm. I have a CM ROM flashed" anymore..?

What a damn bit of luck. The time I finally decide to try out CM, it gets shut down. I hope the great wiki on how to build and install the new OS will be up soon.

The world of custom ROMs just cannot be the same without opensourced CyanogenMod. But it was born and became what it is now thanks to the dedication of devs all around the world. CM will survive while this kind of people exists, they are who build and keep this project that is so important, even more to non-Google devices.

🤔 Either way, I just appreciate your awesome work that empowered so many users! <3

+João Pedroca yes. I thought that it would be still in Cyanogen inc's hands, but who's in charge now at Cyanogen Inc?

A sad state of affairs, there's more than one lesson in this whole Cyanogen saga and maybe a book or a documentary.

Chloe is not the intended solely those of us have your phone number and the first one is the

Sad to hear that 😞cm changed the way the word customisation meant for android platform...thanks everyone for such an effort till date really shocking news...

Gay they should upload the files builds they have on free cloud services to those who remain wanting any version of cm.

McMaster was to Cyanogen, as Apotheker was to webOS.

Dickfaces.

So who owns this Google+ account? Cyanogen Inc?

Well... Cyanogen choose to become formal company (Inc'ed).

Good part, can get investor money, more firm footing when you want to infiltrates phone's manufacturers market. No sane manufacturing companies wants to select their phone's firmware from a bunch of "drunkard's". Which is pretty much where this is started.

However, company needs to makes profits. Investors wants their money back. You can't bleeds money forever.

So, the Inc'ed part of CM? Was prone to this (bankruptcy closure). Those who choose this path? Must already know their consequences when they choose this path..

The King is dead, long live The King!

So, what do those of us with HP (Palm) pads running CM do now? I'm (obviously) not a techie, and my Touchpad is new. Thanks.

I hope the team makes a comeback. Thanks for all the years of development and fun.

My most favourate os Cyanogen Mod is no more. Feeling hopeless😖😖😖😖😭😭

Loosing partnership with the oneplus was the major fault of the cyanogen.. From then on cyanogen kept falling😐
Will miss you cyanogen 😭
Hope you come back soon +CyanogenMod

Dang where can I get the last snapshot and nightly for shamu?

I'm worried about my device future. 🤔

sucks :'( ...i'm glad at least the project will continue to exist under a new name

This one news made my 2016 the worst year, have high hopes from lineage os but no expectations 😭

Ya...don't even knw when I get update in my device...

+Michael Zimmermann thanks to reflected networks we should get involved on backing up these files. Just like the climate scientists are doing knowing trump plans to pull the socket on the servers for what they have going on.

I've been using CM for years on multiple devices. Thank you team! Looking forward to linageOS.

So sad. Thank you for so many Years of flashing!

Disappointing to see CM breakup. I've been following and using CM since its inception in 2008. I'm pretty confident the team will pick up where CM left off.

I liked the Privacy Guard feature, and flashed CM for the sole purpose of using that :(

Thank you for all of the effort and a renewed focus on the future!!

Please don't be greedy this time and do what you do best at making something more than AOSP.
Thanks to you guys, we all love you.

We are sad about that news, but who news this may it will good for the new fork "Lineage" which will be free of restrictions of the companies.
All the best with the new born LINEAGE.

It really makes me sad reading what is happening to CM with all you great guys putting this effort and time in for the sake of the community. You guys did a great job while the inc-guys managed to burn lots of money. The way they treat you now is very poor. I wish you all the best for the upcoming future!

We will not forget you

How convenient, the only active open source and adware and spyware free project is gone... mmmm... of course...

I remember the excitement of putting CM on my first HTC phone, probably nearly 8 years ago. Sad times.

My first custom rom i flashed was cm13 and i used it for months. Really sad this is happening. Will miss cm
Daniel

Thanks for your work and thanks for the code you gave us, guys. Good luck with your other projects.

Such a long way you have done. Looking forward to seeing the rebirth.
Thank you and enjoy your holidays

Thank you for all the fish. Will always remember my first cm on Samsung Galaxy S3

Really depressing to read this mesage. I'll miss you guys!

Still the best custom ROM I've ever tried

Is crowdfunding a possibility for LineageOS?

SO sad to announce these.. Is that a problem of Finance? Could have ask for a DONATION !!

CM11 was the reason I kept my Huawei G620S-L01.
I love CM and I'll do as much to help as possible.

It's good news. Giving up noble principles for the sake of funding would be a shame not worth living with. And how can anyone be motivated to work on things which disagree with their heart to do what's right. Furk it! Open Source marches on. ;)

Find more about your experience I am a very long time I will have the same time to get it is addressed and I have a nice day ahead with a few weeks back to

Google poisoned the Android ecosystem by being a bunch of authoritarian jerks. Every Android development I know got banned and have switched to iOS. Android is a complete waste of time and the SDK is a confusing mess.

+Steve Gehrman I'm not trying to be a hater, but iOS completely just ruins the experience of smartphones in the modern world. iPwn is just a nickname and it really does nothing. Apple just copies random shit from other companies and never really creates anything themselves. iOS has no feeling in their UI.
If you go out in large cities and you'll see a bunch of people with their iPhones and taking photos. You'll notice that all of the iPhones' setups are completely the same. YOU CAN'T CUSTOMIZE A FRICKEN iOS DEVICE!!!!
That is why Android is still living. The freedom, prosperity, the themes, Android created all those in their single OS.

Apple doesn't admit that they suck.

Can someone in charge change the name of the CyanogenMod community to LineageOS?

悲しいなぁ...
CM13をSC-06Dに焼こうと思ったのに...
