I have another deadline this week
Which means I don't have the time/brainpower for a thoughtful, well-researched blog post today. So instead, here's a roundup of some interesting stuff I tweeted or retweeted in the past week: My pals @TheDoubleclicks are making a new album: PRESIDENT SNAKES...

ICYMI elsewhere: I have sold two science fiction spy thriller novels to Thomas Dunne Books (an imprint of St. Martin's Press). Look for the first book, WAYPOINT KANGAROO, in 2016!

So Canada's InnerSpace sent a TV crew to Puzzled Pint Toronto last month, and this was the result. Thanks to Toronto GCs +Mare Sheppard & +Ryan Creighton for hosting and +Andrea Blumberg for the awesome "Greek Myths" puzzles, which you can now find online! http://www.puzzledpint.com/puzzles/march-2015

Listen to this smart lady, y'all.

I will buy a supporting membership to WorldCon for ten people who cannot afford it. Here's why.

For my regular readers, I’m about to talk about the controversy around the Hugo awards, and I’d like you to keep reading even if this is something that you normally aren’t involved in. (If you want backstory, here’s a really quick recap at Strange…

Well, after I wrote that I learned about the gamergate connection. They aren't drama; they are seriously evil little shits. Whatever you have to do to stand up to them, Do It!

Yeah, ditto your WTF on "Coach." People love sports I guess?

I think it would've been funny if the new series was about his son's career as an economy-class flight attendant. That might just be me though. :)

I missed blogging last Wednesday because I was driving to a writers' retreat, but nobody complained. (Maybe you were all distracted by the awesome new Puzzled Pint blog ?) I will continue to make my best effort to blog weekly, but no promises, Mister Scott ...

After helping Ken file his first year of full-time contract-only taxes, I was pretty horrified at the tax rate until I realized how much he could protect some of those earnings in the IRA.  Crazy stuff that I'm only beginning to wrap my brain around. Would love more hints as y'all learn more, too :)

As they say: "Why see a movie in coach when you can sit in first class?" I know, it's a bit of schlep to go to Vancouver or Beaverton just for a movie, but it's totally worth it. Look for Groupons to help defray the cost, and definitely try a Living Room or Movie Parlor sometime!

Good beer, good food, and plenty of space for friends to gather! We've even hosted TWO Puzzled Pint events here, which is 100% more than 99% of our other venues. :)

When our friends visit Portland, this is one of the places we always take them. Love the decor and the variety of bars; we probably come here once a month anyway, between movies, SFWA events, and just hanging out with friends. (Event staff is also great: in October, 2012, I had a birthday shindig in the Library, and Amanda, Jessica, and Leroy made sure everyone had a fun evening!)

Can get a bit noisy, but Critical Sip is a great place for adults to meet and game together. Bonus points for always keeping their bathrooms remarkably clean. ;)
