Rules & Advice  -

Been ref'ing for almost 4 decades, but I am currently looking at a definite possibility I've never had come up before. I know how I will probably proceed but, I'm looking for others thoughts. To whit, I am running a plot point (original rippers) The players are about half way through the second to last point, and there looks to be a distinct possibility of a TPK. If this happens, What would you do? (Don't worry about the fact that just getting replacement characters to finish the point is very difficult). Do you introduce a new party to run the last point? do you call that campaign? something else?

Well...they were successful, with some drawbacks, but they did complete the PPC! I know at least one of the PCs will retire from this experience. The other 2...not sure. Might carry them into the new resurrected. Probably go to a new game, now. Savage is very high on the probability, again due to its flexibility and the messed up meeting schedules! Thanks everyone for ideas. I have used many of them at some point or the other, and there are definite new ideas!

Musings on Grapple...

Do other find it makes sense to modify grapple rolls by size? If a dwarf and an Ogre are grappling...it seems to me that the size difference should be added in, like any fighting roll, but that the follow-on rolls, to maintain the hold, should be modified by size as well, but to the benefit of the larger creature. The Ogre might have a bit more difficult time getting hold of his significantly smaller opponent, but once he has hold, the dwarf will find it very hard to escape. Feedback, please! (Is this reasonable, or does it just get in the way of F!F!F!?)

As mentioned by +Savage Riggs, Strength and Size usually scale together anyway (you can see this with the Growth/Shrink power, but also if you look at the monsters, you'll note that all the big creatures also have really high Strength).

General Discussion  -

I've been recently experimenting with something. (It doesn't come up often, though) and I thought I'd share and/or seek comment: I allow a person to move on their initiative, but then hold their action. I don't allow the action to be held across rounds (as some action has been taken), but it makes for a few interesting situations...

+Daniel Hernandez de Dios Officially, I agree with Clint... in highly tactical combat situations. I'm also a fan of "it's your game' so.... It falls in the same area for me as the Evolution Setting Rule I've created and discussed on the podcast, whereby "Once per rank a character may 'exchange' one Hindrance for another of equal value". It's not official, but it makes it doesn't 'violate the core mechanics' because the player already spent the points at character creation and wants to expand and grow as a character.  Not arguing. Just sayin'

What it says...
For those new to the blog, The King is Dead is my setting of revolution in an 18th century ruled by vampires. In less than two weeks, I'll be running a series of The King is Dead games at GaMExpo. San Antonio's new gaming convention. It's been a few years since I've run games for strangers, ...
