SHAME & THE ALCOHOLIC
Does shame really motivate people to change? Or does it work the opposite way, further tarnishing people's self-image and diminishing their sense of personal responsibility?  http://ow.ly/RTrlJ

The Concert for Cumberland Heights presents Josh Turner on Wednesday, October 15 at the Ryman Auditorium.
One of country music’s most recognizable hit-makers earning numerous CMA, ACM and GRAMMY nominations since the release of his debut album, Long Black Train, Josh Turner has sold more than five million albums and garnered four No. 1 hits. Turner is also one of the youngest members of the Grand Ole Opry, inducted in 2007.

A Hannah, S.C. native, Turner has been songwriting and performing since he was a young child. In April 2014, Turner released his first book, Man Stuff: Thoughts on Faith, Family, and Fatherhood. The book is centered on his Christian faith, with Turner telling stories and revealing lessons learned throughout his life as a father, husband, son, brother, and friend.

The Concert for Cumberland Heights raises money for the John Hiatt Adolescent and Young Adult Treatment Fund at Cumberland Heights. Co-chairs for this year’s event are Cynthia and Dave Arnholt.

We are proud to have presented incredibly gifted artists through the years. Our headliners, while too numerous to mention here, have seen some of the greatest artists in their musical fields.

Because of outstanding volunteer involvement the evening has developed into a special annual event on the Nashville social calendar raising almost $2.5 million for adolescent and young adult patient care.

With a premium ticket or sponsorship we include an exclusive pre-concert party at the Hilton Downtown Nashville.

For sponsorship or ticket information contact Merrill Derrick at 615.432.3226 or email merrill_derrick@cumberlandheights.org.

Second in YouTube Series Helps Families Support Mom

Cumberland Heights launched today the second in its already-acclaimed YouTube video series with a back-to-school message for moms battling addiction and their families.  The latest video titled “Women in Rehab: A Courageous Choice” spotlights the unique challenges women face with both addiction and recovery. The focus on women is timely. With children going back to school, women face increased pressures and responsibilities that often cause addictions to spiral out of control.

"Not only is the physiology of addiction different for women, so are the social challenges regarding treatment," said Melissa Hudgens, director of the women’s program at Cumberland Heights. "Our goal with this segment of the YouTube series is to let women know they have support and treatment options. At Cumberland Heights, we tailor treatment to their unique needs.”

Hudgens explains that certain times of year, such as back to school or the holidays, can trigger increased stresses, causing addictions to peak. Women often feel as though they need to be the caretakers of the house, especially in homes with children. Feeling unable to balance family with treatment can cause women to avoid or delay getting the help they need.

Cumberland Heights’ YouTube series, launched in July, features casually shot, rough-cut videos that effectively capture the emotions and challenges of addicts while providing straightforward and honest information. Cumberland Heights filmed the segments in a way that counselors and leadership hope will be authentic and accessible to the YouTube audience. Video topics include women and addiction, detox, making the commitment to treatment, music therapy and the role of family in treatment. Additional segments will be released throughout the year.

Nationally recognized alcohol and drug treatment center Cumberland Heights (cumberlandheights.org) launched today its new YouTube series designed to speak candidly to people struggling with addiction and those who care about them. The casually shot, rough-cut videos effectively capture the emotions and challenges of addicts, while providing straightforward, honest information from treatment professionals and alumni about the process and what to expect. The initial segment, which will go up on Cumberland Heights' YouTube channel on July 8, demystifies detox and will hopefully alleviate some addicts' concerns about the process, often considered to be one of the hardest hurdles for those seeking treatment.
"We really want to reach addicts and their families in a language they understand....these videos are raw and real. We hope this series conveys not only relatable emotions but also usable information. The important message throughout is that no one has to battle addiction alone," said Walt Quinn, chief marketing officer at Cumberland Heights.
Cumberland Heights filmed the segments in a way that counselors and leadership hope will be authentic and accessible to the YouTube audience. Video topics include women and addiction, detox, making the commitment to treatment, music therapy and the role of family in treatment. By creating insightful videos that capture the essence of addiction and rehabilitation, Cumberland Heights is hoping to make it easier for those struggling to make the leap of faith to recovery.
"Much of what exists on YouTube about addiction and recovery is highly produced and commercial. Cumberland Heights hopes to reach viewers who will relate to first-hand information that addresses their often unspoken fears and apprehensions about rehab," said Melissa Hudgens, director of women's services at Cumberland Heights.
YouTube is Cumberland Heights' newest avenue to reach addicts and their families. The center uses Facebook, a blog, newsletter and regular educational releases to communicate its messages of hope to those who might need encouragement and guidance. The videos will be posted on the Cumberland Heights YouTube channel and website (cumberlandheights.org) over the next year.
