THIS IS MY LIFE
Such a beautiful disaster, organized chaosand an unknown superstar. Her name is Crystallea Monroe. She was born Crystallea Bowen on Friday, July 13, 1984 in Virginia Beach,Virginia.
Crystallea grew up listening to and singing a wide range of music that included Pop, Country, Rock, R&B and The Blues.
“My mom loved music. She would play Classical music and tell me to sing her a story. This helped me later in life when I started writing.”
Crystallea started performing at the ripe age of 5 on her very own stage.
“It was actually my fireplace and my mom’s hair brush was my microphone. My mom would dress me up like a movie star and she would have me sing to her all day. Always telling me “Crystallea remember you are star. Act like it!”
When Crystallea was almost 10, music truly became her life when her mother committed suicide.
“I quickly realized why God blessed me with the gift of music. I knew it would take me places and bring me happiness when I knew nothing else could.”
Then, in the 4th grade, Crystallea hit the stage with a real audience for a school talent show. She fell in love withentertaining people and never looked back. By age 15, she earned the title of Miss Teen Virginia Beach Talent. Soon after, she headed out on the road with Las Vegas Extremes singing The National Anthem across the USA. She sang twice in 28 states. At 16, she performedat LA’s famous Viper Room with Be Real (Cypress Hill) and Fear Factory. At 17, she continued performing at events including the DUB car shows. At 19, she was signed with Legacy Entertainment associated with AM PM Aftermath for a developmental deal. She has opened for Madonna after party, Paul Wall and Majah (Konvict’s new artist) as V103’s feature artist. She has been featured as an independent artist on Clear Channel Radio and Kiss FM where her single made charts. Crystallea has been featured on numerous internet radio stations and shows like WTF Online Radio and Underground Radio. In 2010 she was a feature entertainer at Atlanta’s Hottest Entertainer Awards.
Recently, she has been working on her new album “This is the Life”. She is the main writer on the album.
“I am not opposed to working with other writers or artists. Actually, I love to! With this album I wanted to really show the world and my fans where I came from and who I am. My life story is a big part of my music. Who can tell thatbetter than me? I really believe that it will be inspiring and a lot of people will be able to relate to this album.”
Crystallea has worked closely with some well-known producers who have worked with artists like TLC, Young Joc, Anthony Hamilton, Justin Timberlake, Babs (Making the Band), Lil Wayne, Barry Murphy (a producer at The Tyler Perry Studios) and many more.
“I am currently working on a few surprise collaborations with various artists including one of my idols, Tboz (TLC). I can’t believe I’m finally in a position where the artists I grew up listening to are hearing my music and want to work with me! It feels like my hard work and sacrifices are finally paying off.”
Crystallea has been attending Boot Camp for the Stars with Dominique Mitchell who is called“The Decision Maker” at Universal Records.
“I thought it was going to be some kind of vocal training at first. I could not have been more wrong! It is actually a very physical class that teaches you that you can do anything if you put your mind to it and want it bad enough. Lady Gaga, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Beyoncé and Rihanna have all sweated it out in this class. Dominique pushes you to your limit and tells you “If you can’t take it, you won’t make it!”
“The music industry is life-changing and heartbreaking. It comes with a lot of lessons and sacrifices. It has been a long and, sometimes, very lonely road for me. I just keep fighting and pushing even when it seems like my dreams may never become a reality. I know I was born to do music, be a star and most of all, born to make a difference. I do music not for fortune or fame but to tell my story.”
Her musical influences are diverse and include Stevie Knicks, Tina Turner, Steven Tyler, TLC, Pink, Blues Traveler, Heart, Celine Dion and Missy Elliot ,Areosmith. These unique influences have people comparing her to Madonna, Taylor Dayne and Christina Aguilera and even Lady gaga because of the unquiness of their music.
“All around the world the wait is almost over. Tell the DJs to spin my record! I’m starting a whole new genre. I am a living legend and a superstar! Like Elvis, my music and I will go down in history!”
Crystallea continues to perform and rock venues all over.
