New Caledonia has banned all types of extraction, including commercial and industrial fishing in the Chesterfield, Bellona, Entrecasteaux, Pétrie and Astrolabe coral reef ecosystems. The Entrecasteaux and Astrolabe reefs will be set aside as an Integral Park - where nobody except scientists can go for any reason.

When you are cruising in a foreign country using a pay-in-advance data connection with your mobile phone or modem you want to know what's eating up your data in the background. Here is a simple, free, quick way to keep an eye on the programs uploading and downloading in the background and stop them from doing it if you don't want them to.

We've changed the cruising guide websites to https: (no www) so they are now
https://cruising-newcaledonia.com
and
https://cruising-vanuatu.com
If you have a link to our sites from your website it might be a good idea if you changed the links on your site (no hurry, they still work OK but I understand it is an SEO minus point for your site if you have an incorrect external link).

It's getting more and more difficult to go cruising with a cat or dog aboard your yacht. Quarantine regulations in New Caledonia now require you to have a valid veterinary certificate from the last port of call and you must submit a request to enter New Caledonia waters with a pet aboard before you actually arrive - and your pet will need to go into a quarantine facility ashore for 10 days or, if your yacht will be leaving sooner, until the yacht is ready to depart. You will need to pay the transportation and quarantine costs for the pet. If your yacht was in a country known to have rabies within the past 6 months the yacht won't be able to enter New Caledonia. You can download a pdf file with details directly from the New Caledonia quarantine website.
These regulations are similar to those in New Zealand and Australia - so you might really want to leave your pets at home.
