Wow! Windyty has a new improved magnificent amazing updated site. Lots of really great improvements. Spend some time setting it up - click on everything to see what it does. You can customize the overlays menu to include (or exclude) just about any relevant information you might want for planning your day or week. I added wind gusts, sea surface temperature, and ocean currents! You can also adjust the overlay colors to suit yourself. Click and Play :-)

If you think you have potty problems while cruising check out this article.

Post has attachment - is a new animated weather site very similar to our much beloved WindyTy. It does not have ocean currents or waves, like but there are some nice features including three global models, including the German ICON model, the American GFS model and the Canadian GEM model so you can compare predictions from different supercomputers. ICON is said to be the most accurate but only gives a 72hr prediction. Another nice feature is seeing the wind speed in knots wherever your cursor is on the map.

Good News. I just downloaded (4.77GB) the new MacOSX Sierra and the cruising and travel guides to New Caledonia and Vanuatu work fine on the newest Mac OS. The download and installation went without a single problem and my little Mac works perfectly.
But - don't do this while cruising. Wait till you get home.

Mac OSX and various Mac Apps constantly upload and download data in the background, which is fine when you are home with a good Internet connection. But when you are cruising, using a satellite phone or mobile phone data plan all that uploading and downloading will gobble up gigabytes of expensive data usage. Here is a step by step tutorial on how to stop Mac from wiping out your mobile online data budget:

Windows 10 and other programs upload and download data in the background without notifying the user - this can create serious problems for cruisers using a satellite phone or a mobile phone to connect to the Internet. Here is how to stop the data parasites from munching your mobile data use.

Post has attachment has just added a new global forecasting system to it's magical weather display. Just above the Overlay selection is a button to change between the well known GFS forecasts to the new ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) which claims to be be more accurate than GFS. We'll see if it is, but meantime it serves a super beneficial purpose for sailors. If you click on GFS then ECMWF and the wind or rain patterns more or less agree then the weather is predictable. You can sail or not depending on if the winds are favorable. If the two supercomputers disagree substantially the weather is NOT predictable (don't set sail).

We have just updated the Cruising Guide to New Caledonia and the Cruising Guide to Vanuatu for Mac and Windows 10. The March 2016 version includes the latest version of the Flash Player, new images, and updated information on Internet, mobile phone and various services. We added local tide offset information to many anchorages. The new guides work well on Windows 10 tablets.
