These ladies work out to work hard! The Morning Crew choose to start their days at the box with some friendly competition and camaraderie.

Why exercise in the morning? It boosts metabolism, making them burn more calories all day long; and it also gives them more energy for long hours in the office, running errands, or managing their businesses. It's been shown that people who work out early in the day are also more likely to be consistent with their routines, and get better sleep at night.

Have you heard the term "scale down?" To scale is to perform a variation of a complex movement, depending on one's current capacity. Scaling is advised by coaches to either introduce a new movement, review the proper form, or to ease into a new weight class.

This photo shows the box dip. It prepares the same muscles for the hanging ring dip, which is a component of the muscle up. The box dip itself has its variations, from changing the height of the box, to adjusting the distance of your feet from it. No matter which you decide to start with, it is best to be consistent throughout the workout, to build strength and avoid injury. The intensity of every movement is entirely up to the individual.

Aside from looking great in photos, the handstand does more for the mind and body than it appears. It requires strength, flexibility, and mental focus. That’s why it’s used in many fitness programs like gymnastics, acrobatics, dance, yoga, and CrossFit.

The handstand is a skill, so not everyone can do it on the first try; but don’t be discouraged! As with other skills, it can be done with perseverance and self-confidence.

What are the benefits of the handstand? Maintaining a straight line while upside down engages your core, which allows better balance and stability. It also increases upper body strength, as it is comparable to “push pressing” your own body weight. To hold a handstand means having better control of one’s breathing, and it also increases blood circulation. Best of all, it can be done in any open space, with or without a wall (depending on individual skill level) so anyone can sneak in a workout whenever they want.

Most importantly, it is FUN and has been proven to elevate people’s moods. Approach a coach for the proper form and for safety, and try it at the box today!
