If those fingers were on my own meat hooks, it would be a blessing for a poor guitarist. Or pianist. I get jealous of fine hands because I still struggle to play. Yet another form of art. Thanks.

Interview with +Laura Rivera  at Random Encounters community. Please leave your comments and thoughts over there. Thank you Laura, for sharing your thoughts with us! :)

Hello, Random Encounters friends.
We have the pleasure of celebrating the arrival of spring with our first interview with one of the community members, +Laura Rivera . She is the winner of our most recent contest ( SELF EXPRESSION ) and she agreed to answer a few questions for our readers.

1.Thank you, Laura Rivera, for agreeing to answer a few questions for the Random Encounters community. First of all, what can you tell us about yourself, aside your photographic interests?

Laura Rivera: Well, in addition to photography, I really also like to listen music, to read, to draw, take care of my plans...

2. How long have you been interested in photography, and what are your favorite “tools of the trade” ? (cameras, editing software) Do you shoot film or digital? What are your favorite subjects?

Laura Rivera: In 1993 I made my first photography courses in the photoclub of my city, "Peña Fotográfica Rosarina".

There I learned to develop film and paper, copy my pictures. It was incredible!, exciting! and my interest grew.

Then, with our first internet connection, in 98 approximately, I could expand my knowledge, with all information obtained: publications, history, art, technique and also in that year, I subscribed me to a photographers forum, "Fotored", a mailing list. I learned a lot from these exchanges.

My first SLR was a Zenit. I also used Minolta and Nikon but I have today, a Canon EOS Rebel T2i with a 18-55mm zoom, a 300mm tele and a 50mm lens. Sometimes when I do not have the DSRL with me, I usually use an old compact Panasonic FZ8 or even my smartphone.

My subjects are usually intimate, I like to photograph the leaves of the trees, hidden corners, I like reflections, shadows... I like to photograph the effect of the time and light on objects.

3. What is your regular inspiration for creating? Do you have any favorite artistic trends, people, maybe you prefer to be inspired by other forms of art (painting, music, other?)

Laura Rivera: I admire the work of many photographers but perhaps the one that has motivated me is Josef Soudek. His work is wonderful, I admire very much. I would like to reflect such sensitivity in my photographs.

4. What are your thoughts regarding online exposure on social media? Does it help an artist improve their work?

Laura Rivera: I am convinced that the Internet is a very powerful tool, if used properly, helps to learn a lot. One must know how to find a balance to think your own work, be objective with yourself and to find your own ideas.

5. You are an active member of the Random Encounters community. How do you feel about the concept that lies behind this community, that of collaboration between artists? How have you benefited from participating in our community?

Laura Rivera: "Random Encounters" is a wonderful community. I follow it with great attention because there are very talented people among its members. It is difficult to find the just image for shaping a diptych in collaboration with another artist, but I love the results, truly can be viewed excellent works.

6. As you know, we have recently released a first online issue of “Random Encounters” magazine- (Random Encounters Special http://issuu.com/olgavansaane/docs/retemplate1/1). We plan on releasing future issues, and we value our members’ suggestions. Is there anything you would like to suggest to make the content of our community better (new categories, different approach to collaboration, anything else)?

Laura Rivera: No, there isn't nothing I can add ... the first issue for me was such a nice surprise!! The magazine design is impeccable and I'm grateful to have been part of that first selection, and is also a great honor be part of the second issue, with this interview.

Thank you very much to all and especially to moderators working to make this possible .

Thank you +Laura Rivera for being our first guest for an interview, and we wish you a lot of creativity, and wait for more of your images in the Random Encounters community.

You made some salient points in the interview, but the one thing that was exceptional was your refusal to nab any political bait. Way to go!

True. Sadly, looks are transitory manifestations of the aging process. A skill should outlast those few years of "lookin good". Your own skills will develop as you hone them and I'm hoping to see your take on older people, working people, all kinds of subject matter that you are so talented at transposing into images. Getting older needn't be a death sentence except for those obsessed with beauty. You know that. In the right lens, aging holds its own beauty. Peace...
