My take on the Journatic scandal: Regardless of what happens to the company, the change it represents is not going away.

Some pragmatic, hard-headed analysis +Craig Silverman well done.

I agree with you that some form of low-level data farming by non-journalists (wherever they are located) is ineviatable.

Let's hope the suits and beancounters  don't drown the new journalism baby in the content-creation bathwater.

A nice look at what we're building at Spundge, by ReadWriteWeb.

While Spundge caters to journalists, writers of corporate blogs, social media and e-mail newsletters all need improved searches and data filters to gather relevant material.

If you fit the bill, Spundge might be a good addition to your workflow.

Story

Journalist-entrepreneur focused on building and writing things.
Introduction
I'm a journalist-entrepreneur and media critic in Montreal, Canada. I work primarily in online journalism and am currently obsessed with things such as crowdsourced verification, content aggregation and curation, collaborative journalism, news startups, accuracy checklists, data visualization, and real-time information. I apologize for all the buzzwords.

I'm the director of content and product strategy for Spundge, a platform that enables professionals to discover, curate and create compelling content.

I am founder and editor of Regret the Error, an award-winning site that tracks and reports on accuracy and media corrections. My book, Regret The Error: How media Mistakes Pollute the Press and Imperil Free Speech, was published by Penguin Group (Canada) and Union Square Press in fall 2007. It won an award from the U.S. National Press Club.

I was previously part of the team that launched OpenFile, which provided local news in six Canadian cities.

My second book, co-written with Michael Calce, is Mafiaboy. It won the Arthur Ellis Award for Non-Fiction from the Crime Writers of Canada.

What else? I'm the former managing editor of PBS MediaShift and Idea Lab and a former columnist for Columbia Journalism Review, The Globe And Mail, the Toronto Star, and BusinessJournalism.org.

My writing has appeared in publications including The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Montreal Gazette, Report On Business magazine, Maisonneuve, The Coast, and the Sunday Herald, among others. I spent close to a decade as a full-time freelance journalist.

I currently serve as President of the Professional Writers Association of Canada.
