This past weekend I traveled to Maryland, upon request, to photograph the family reunion of a very close friend of mine. I've known Claire since high school; 30 years before I can blink twice.
Upon meeting Claire's family, immediate and extended, I could see the love amongst them. Some had only met for the first time that day, but yet you could see the ties that bound them. Claire broke down the lineage; the great grands, grands, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, cousins... Not my family, but Black nonetheless...WARM and BEAUTIFUL.
Everyone that knows me knows I'm very Pro-Black. In no way should this suggest that I'm Anti-Anything Else. It simply means that I'm as close to my own as any other would/should be close to theirs. In this time, where so many things have been thrown into the path of the Black family unit to divide it; I was thrilled, humbled and proud to photograph this beautiful, Black FAMILY.
