Samsung's Smart Fridge joins the Botnet of Things.
$3599 is a lot of money. It could get you a decent second-hand car, or a relatively tricked out iMac. You could buy 3599 McChicken burgers, or 2589 McDoubles. Or it could get you the Samsung RF28HMELBSR. This (snappily-named) fridge has everything. It’s got four doors, a colossal 28 cubic foot of space, and an…

A Dream Come True: Huge Lego Bricks for Building Real Stuff http://rdpck.co/15771061 by (@wired) via @ReadingPack
If you’ve ever played with Lego (and who hasn’t?) as an adult, you’ve inevitably looked at the tiny bits of plastic in your hand and thought, Damn, these things are small. That’s what Arnon Rosan thought, anyway. “You get older,R...

Lego certainly had huge blocks, each about the size of a storage box for normal lego - meant for under 3s (presumably on the basis that they couldn't swallow a block larger than themselves)

Hiding tech in your shoes? That's one area where women and Noddy Holder have an advantage.

Woman builds secret compartments in her shoes to hide hacking tools.

Inspired by the TV show, "Mr. Robot," an engineer in China who calls herself the SexyCyborg (and also a "natural honeypot") created custom, 3D-printed shoes that hold hacking tools. Best of all, they're accessed via drawers that come out without needing to remove the shoes.

She's wearing a slinky dress that leads one to believe she couldn't possibly be hiding anything. But inside her shoes are: a pen testing drop box, an OpenWRT router that works as a wi-fi sniffer which can operated inside the shoe,  a keylogger with built-in memory, a retractable cable for the OpenWRT router, a shim (to open padlocks), and a lock pick set.

This is how much the drafters of #ttip don't want you to know. Nothing to fear, nothing to hide?

The Independent carries a story today about the dangers that TTIP has for national governments, accountability and democracy itself.

In October GlobalNet21 will be holding a meeting in the House of Commons on the TTIP agreement between the EU and the US that could adversely effect our public services, our food quality, our privacy and our democracy. This will be hosted by Geraint Davies MP. The article tells us that,

“The European Commission has been accused of a cover-up after refusing to release details of talks between its officials and the tobacco industry during negotiations over the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) treaty.

Critics of the trade talks, which centre on reducing the regulatory barriers to international trade for big business, said the documents back up fears that TTIP will allow tobacco giants to take legal action against the UK and other European governments who attempt to tighten smoking legislation.

The Corporate Europe Observatory had argued for full disclosure of the documents citing the EU’s freedom of information law and the World Health Organisation’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The latter’s guidelines oblige governments to limit interactions with the tobacco industry to a minimum and to ensure full transparency of those interactions that occur.”
