Another place where Kansas is lagging behind our neighboring states, and most of the rest of the country. 13th in the region, 48th in the nation. That sucks.

It's Alive!

Took an hour long shakedown cruise out and back on one of the local bike/walk trails. It's quite rough in places and has lots of short steep climbs and descents. Good test of shifting and brakes. Plus, if anything isn't securely attached, it would have been bounced or rattled off along the way. Everything works fine. A couple of brake and shifting fine tuning adjustments, but nothing major. Here is the final build list:

Soma Double Cross Frameset
Mavic A319 rims
Shimano 105 hubs
Shimano 105 front and rear derailleurs (10 sp)
Shimano 105 cassette (12-27)
Shimano Dura-Ace bar end shifters
FSA Omega crankset (50/34)
FSA Mega Exo botton bracket
Ritchey Logic Comp headset
3T Forgie XL stem
Kore Elite handle bar
Tektro brake levers
Avid SD-5 brakes
Continental Contact II Reflex 32mm tires
San Marco saddle
Planet Bike Hardcore fenders (not installed yet)

Unfortunately, it still has to pass both the house and senate. Maybe we will finally be recognized as vehicles in the Sunflower state.

End of day 1. Time for brake and shift cables. My homemade headset press and fork race installer worked great.

I have a big C clamp that I use for headsets. Been working good for many years.

Soma Double Cross frame and fork have been ordered. The only thing left to order is the wheel set. I've been accumulating parts since September. A few parts where birthday or Christmas gifts (tires, headlight, bottle cages, saddle bag). A few misc. parts are on the way (seat collar clamp, chainstay protector, frame saver spray, etc.). Hopefully, I can start posting progress photos in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, sounds like your good to go. The carbon fork probably is what causes my trouble.

KC's famous boulevard and parkway system is a great place to walk and bike, but it can be even better. Let our city leaders know that you support bike/ped in new design standards for parkways and boulevards.
